Calzaghe is retired and should stay that way he as done it all there is only money to be made from beating Froch but surely he has enough of that to retire with now?
Always makes me laugh how some say Calzaghe is over rated he is one of the best Boxers of all time with a 46-0 record.
No Yanks would come to Britain to fight him(even though he was the champion) they bottled it just like Taylor making Froch go to America.
Calzaghe beat Lacy easily and that scared the rest of as he was at the time viewed by every1(including me) as the next big thing.
Americans fighters get vastly over rated as they hardly ever leave there own back yard to fight.

Calzaghe DID throw massive amounts of punches. Even then he STILL stopped short of killing RJJ in their fight. He got ****ing booed for not attacking Jones and vice versa. Normal Calzaghe would attack and attack while slipping in hard shots, but he gave Jones breathing space even when Jones was cut and he wasn't getting hurt by Jones at the final rounds anymore.

Watch the fight. Calzaghe just coasted the final rounds. Compared to his other fights, its obvious.

Jones kept his hands very high in a defensive posture. He wasn't trying to do anything but survive. That is why Calzaghe did a lot of bodywork.

Froch's defence is a joke. Calzaghe would have his way, and I'm sure on volume he'd make an impact on Froch and bust him up as he did Lacy, even if he doesn't stop him.

Calzaghe allowed Roy to finish the fight, that much is obvious.

There was respect and no bad blood between them. It was an exhibition.

If Froch caught Calzaghe early (after a few rounds he seems pretty much unhurtable) then he may have a chance. Doubt that happens, and unlike Taylor Calzaghe has a good chin and great stamina, he would win a lopsided UD IMO.

Lacy whom was owned by Taylor, who got KO'd by Froch... ?

    Dont see it somehow.

For a start, they are completely different fighters in every possible way.

Doesnt have to stop him or floor him to beat him.... he has better boxing skills & would score a convincing UD.

I seriously doubt that but its hard to pick anyone to beat a prime RJJ... I do however feel that Calzaghe would have given him his toughest ever fight & would have went the full 12 rds... Joe wasnt at his peak either dont forget when he masterclassed Roy.... Calzaghe stands a better chance than anyone of beating prime RJJ but he has a lot of fans that hate him who avoid talking of his strengths & pick out his weaknesses.... JC was a superb fighter with a solid chin & the will of a lion.

Heres a better question: If Joe Calzaghe couldn't even stop a shot to pieces Roy Jones...what makes some people think that he could hold a candle to a Prime Jones Jr.?

The will of a lion and the punching power of a dandylion.

Prime, athletically surpreme Jones with those reflexes could be a cautious fighter when in with hard punchers.

I have a lot of respect for Calzaghe's experience and ability, but there's no way that Roy respects his power, has trouble staying out of range and if Byron Mitchell is dropping Joe early, Roy drops and stops Joe in the mid rounds after figuring him out.

Roy was an excellent finisher in his prime, when Warren was bringing Joe up through the ranks, he'd have sooner throw a grenade in the ring than put him in with a late 90's Roy Jones Jnr.

I mean, the version Joe defeated is a shadow of what he was. I think Joe would have been in his face and trying, but his lack of pop and Jones' stupidly good reflexes and countering ability - I would never pick any version of Joe to see the final bell.

what does that have to do with him hitting Froch at will and horribly out classing him over 12 onesided rounds? I like Froch a lot, he's a blood and guts fan friendly guy with an iron will and massive hunger, but lets not get carried away

Joe Calzaghe is a very busy fighter. Sometimes he throws that crappy looking slap junk but he'd almost certainly beat Froch on points. Whether he puts him away or not who knows.

My thoughts exactly. Think what Tarver & Johnson did with single shots to a better version of Jones. Calzaghe scored literally hundreds of clean head shots and didn't even floor Roy. He would outbox Froch, but he couldn't hurt him with a sledgehammer.

Calzaghe chose to taunt and embarrass Glass Jaw Roy in the later rounds. Had Calzaghe stepped on the gas in the final 3 rounds no doubt he would have shattered Roy's Glass Jaw. Calzaghe barely threw any punches in the final 3 rounds.
