Dawson is the quality operator at 175lbs. I'd make him a slight underdog against Calzaghe but wouldn't be surprised if he beat Joe. He matches up well physically against Joe (speed inparticular which is key!) and would probablybe able to trade on the inside as well as box on the outside with Joe and be competitive.
A Calzaghe victory would be discredited no doubt but so would a victory against Hopkins, Woods, Taylor/Pavlik for various reasons.
Some people hate to give various boxers credit for a variety of reasons.(Floyd is a prime example)

If Calzaghe were to win Dawson would become overated or If Dawson won he would become the Next Roy Jones.

This fight will probably happen because Dawson is ducking Diaconu and Calzaghe is ducking Bute...

dawson is a good fighter i like him a lot,i like watching his style and hope he does a number on johnson, but i find it ironic that calzaghe beats the 39-0 kessler and straight away kessler is a stiff average only, euro fighter wh

dawson beats adamek ,ruiz and mendoza and he is way better than kessler and probably calzaghe as well and has all the advantages.

now calzaghe is not going to fight dawson so its academic at this point , but i will throw out a few flaws in dawson.

he is a right handed fighter fighting southpaw, he places his weight mainly on his right side and thats where all his power comes from with his jab and right hook.

his left is just an arm shot, his weight not correct on it to deliver any power and also squares up when he tries to throw it with power.

so at the momnent he is a lobsided fighter although i know he is working at ironing out his faults in sparring and training and it is something that can be put right.

seen many fighters develop the weak hand with experience and fights.
