If Joe Calzaghe had lost a fight, would you still consider him an ATG?

Calzaghe is an ATG, an all time great fraud that is

Calzaghe is on the same level as Tszyu and Winky and JL Castillo, and below the likes of Marquez, Trinidad and Mosley, and way below the likes of De La Hoya, Barrera and Morales, and nowhere even near the same level as Pacquiao, Jones Jr, Mayweather and Hopkins.

A 4th tier fighter from a weak era cannot be an ATG. Cannot.

    Is Cerdan's better?

    Cerdan's resume is very thin.

However, overall, career-wise, taking account of all weight classes etc, do you think Hopkins' resume is not better than Calzaghe's?

Agreed. He is better than many make it out to be. But IMO the above does not deserve an ATG standing. Despite funky technique and less than stellar defense, he had the ability to do great things. To me JC's career is a tale of 2 careers. He spent his prime years making weak defenses of a relatively undesirable belt. He absolutely SHOULD be undefeated against those guys.

Act 2 came after he demolished Lacy. Kessler was another good win. But those plus beating an old Hopkins and a shot Jones do not mke up for all that questionable time.

It doesn't matter if Joe runs off and hides (retires) or if he fought again and lost. Fact is, the boy will always be a bum in the world's eyes. Won't be long until the boy pulls an Elvis or Morrison on us, the fake.

Tito Trinidad definitely. I rate it as one of history's great wins over a prime HOF-level fighter moving up to try and topple the 160 king, much like Monzon-Griffith or Hagler-Hearns. Trinidad had already shown he could blow away the best lmw's (Vargas) and that he could blow away a mw champion (Joppy), and Hopkins not only took his zero but completely nullified, dominated and stopped him. IMO it was one of THE wins of the 2000s.

Hopkins even beat an arguably prime De La Hoya. De La Hoya got a gift before the fight but on paper he does have a "win" for a MW title. Beating Trinidad, De La Hoya, and even winning some rounds against a prime RJJ shows just how great Hopkins was. I admit, outside of that his resume @ MW is lacking but he still beat great fighters in Trinidad & De La Hoya when they were either prime(Tito) or close to it(DLH). He still moved up and beat the man(Tarver) at light heavyweight at the time and beat Pavlik, the guy that beat the guy Hopkins closely lost to twice. What makes Hopkins so much better than Calzaghe is that despite having a weak era, he has better wins in his era and even challenged himself(still does) more when he moved up. I hope he does beat Pascal & Dawson as that will add more icing to Hopkins' already great career. Nothing against Calzaghe, he's great but didn't take the needed opportunities to show us how great he was. Beating Kessler & Lacy was great but he wasted his physically prime years outside of beating Eubank.

Nah, Hopkins's win over De La Hoya was pretty meaningless IMO.

It wasn't his best but it was still a good scalp on his resume. Definitely not a great win but good.

Definetly. His inside fighting was incredible, he could stay within the punching range of top 10 SMW and not get hit whilst getting of 5-10 punches. A lot of his world title defences were super six standard opponents really, Mario Veit was destroyed by Calzaghe twice and people give Calzaghe no credit for that even though Veit has some good wins over guys like Bramer and never lost at Euro level. I would like to know one person out of Hopkins title reighn Calzaghe would not have beaten p4p and let's remember Hopkins was regarded p4p number 1 before he lost to Taylor.

I don't consider him an ATG as it is, but a defeat wouldn't make any difference to where I stand him unless he lost one of the bigger tests in his career.
