Dawson Woods is a far more realistic fight.

IMHO at this point in time, Dawson is another Lacy. Joe will be damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.....

BTW the poll options were very "weighted" against Calzaghe ....

Calabrese.........Your right - the casual fan would give Joe more credit, for what in their eyes would be Joe fighting a has been as oppose to a never was !!!

Don't worry...I am not a shrinking violet! I like the tone of your post!

If Dawson wasn't THERE...Joe wouldn't have to fight him and we would all be happy if he fought the likes of Woods and Hopkins till the cows came home...But he IS there...and Joe said he wanted to fight the best! He said he wanted to cement his legacy, before the Kessler fight! Fights like the one against Kessler affected Joe's legacy A LOT! A win over prime Dawson will affect it A LOT too! What makes you think that Dawson would retire after a loss to Joe? Do you know how old Dawson is? He is not 43!

Anyway...it's not what I think about Dawson...it's what the best analysts on this site think: Amsterdam, brooklyn1550, huki, kg0205, magnum, sean, Zakman, etc. Ask THEM what they think of Dawson if you cannot see it!

You were complaining a couple of weeks ago that Joe had not fought the best...that you didn't think much of his legacy, blah, blah...then he fought Kessler and suddenly you think that is enough! Well it ain't! There is still a man out there that Joe needs to fight - and his name is not Hopkins!

Come now, GazOC! You cannot compare Dawson to Lacy in any way - Lacy was a limited hyped-up gift for Joe, whereas Dawson is a very talented nightmare for Joe with little hype in the mainstream boxing media.

Sure...the poll option were weighted against JC - I am trying to make a point. Still, there are a couple of options that are fair.

    Dec -

I've said that Dawson looks a very good fighter - but there have obviously been many fighters who look like very good fighters and prove to be less than this. You have to prove it in boxing, what "the best analysts think" means not a great deal.

My point about Dawson's retirement wasn't a misunderstanding about his age, it was a rhetorical point - if he loses to Cal and then retired - say because of heart trouble - there would be wringing of hands and then he would be forgotten, as the next good prospect appeared.

Dawson's done nothing, and may do nothing yet.

I've certainly never infered that Joe has "done enough" by beating Kessler.

This is the crappiest poll ever. I voted for none of the above since many in the boxing world have no idea who Chad Dawson is and a win over him would prove nothing to the casual fans. He beat Adamek and who else?

If I were Joe I'd take the money fights - period.

Right...so better than fighting the best Champion out there who beat Adamek, and who the best analysts all agree is more dangerous than anyone else, to Joe, he should fight a fighter we can all agree is way past his sell by date, a fighter we know has no chance of beating him, a fighter he SHOULDN'T get ANY CREDIT WHATSOEVER for beating - since, as JOE himself says - he is an old man - a 43year-old, who should have retired after the first Taylor fight and certainly after the second!

    Yeah, that makes sense!

Joe has left his run a little late. Of course fighting Dawson and beating him would help his legacy. It's a fight I'd definitely like to see. I still think Hopkins can trouble Joe a lot but Chad is the next biggest threat out there. So if Joe wants to fight the best then yes, he should for Chad Dawson.

It would have been crappier if it had no "none of the above" option and not the two bottom options that turn the other way...think about it some more!;)

    :good

Look, I am not saying Joe should absolutely not fight Dawson, Woods, whoever...I am saying yeah, Joe, carry on beating these guys but NOT at the expense of fighting DAWSON! If he fights Dawson, whenever, he can fight Manfredo again for all I care...But he should fight DAWSON before he retires.

These same ''analysts'' said the same about Lacy.

With Joe only having 2 more fights he needs to pick them carefully, if Dawson beats someone of note, i.e Woods, this would be a great fight to go out on.

No they didn't! Where did you get that rubbish from? :huhAnyone who knew anything about boxing predicted Joe would win...and the better analysts forsaw the onesided affair...

Lacy was sent over here dubbed 'Mini Mike Tyson' - if you dont believe he was over-hyped I suggest you listen to HBO's commentary of his fight against a washed up Robin Reid.
