What do I care HBO were hyping him up? I am talking about good objective analysts! Of course there were loads who bought the hype about Lacy - many fans, even some of those who visit this site regularly and contribute don't have a clue...and what is worse, they don't even know whom to listen to, like I do, for example.

The "fair" options are hidden away down the bottom of the list....;)

At this point in time I don't see what Dawson brings to the table for Calzaghe? If Joe beats him people wil just say Dawson was overated, like they are doing with Lacy....

Yeah...people said Kessler was overrated too...so what? What do the two of us care what half-wits or haters say? We think Dawson is not overrated because we have seen him fight! And we listen to our betters who tell us he is the real deal! So we are pretty sure he is not overrated.

I take it you mean the best champ at that particular weight?

I haven't said most of the stuff that you seem to think I have said, so i'll lay out my position.

My pick for Joe's final 3 fights would be; Hopkins, Dawson, Woods (homecoming).

In an "overall" sense, Joe will not get as much credit for beating Dawson as he will for beating Hopkins - that is plain fact. The impact upon Joe's legacy in relation to a win over Dawson is entirely future dependant. If Dawson is diagnosed with something horrible two days after Joe, he will have beaten a good fighter, same as when he beat Jeff.

Failing to fight Dawson is not the terrible blow to Joe that you seem to think.

Joe has been hurt so much more by what's gone in preceeding years.

I don't care what analysists say all that much, though it's fun, and it's nice to be informed by smart people. I need a fighter to prove it.

True...I am giving Joe a bit of tough love, like I did when he wasn't sure whether to fight Kessler...and I am glad I did.

Grant makes a good point, let Dawson prove himself to be a decent scalp for Calzaghe before they fight. JC has said he wants 2 more fights before he retires, I'm sure he'd stretch it to 3 and fight Dawson this time next year if Dawson beat a couple of decent fighters in between now and then.

Dawson and Calzaghe can be made right now. People just need to calm down about "what it might mean" if they don't meet. Because, "not a lot" is the answer. Provided he fought another good fighter instead.

i like you decebal, you're a really excellent poster, but you sounded like a complete arse with the last part of the above post. 90-95% of boxing journalists/analysts thought lacy was going to win inside the distance, these guys are just as qualified to talk about the sport as a bunch of guys on the internet are.

BTW, if zak is your idea of a good analyst then i fear for you.

You don't need to be an expert to see that Chad is more highly skilled fighter than Jeff Lacy. This thread got me thinking that yea...this fight should be made. Chad Dawson brings a lot to the table...he's athletic, tall, talented, quick hands, got power and a polished set of good skills. For what it's worth he's got a belt as well and he's already beaten a couple of top rated fighters. Only thing he doesn't have is the hype, Dawson is a hidden gem atm.

i highly doubt it could be made now, dawson can't draw enough to make the sort of money joe is after at this stage of his career. joe fights on HBO, chad on showtime and then there is the little issue of warren-king.

    Good man! :good

It is if he has the chance of fighting him and doesn't purposefully, if he still wants to fight the best. It is a big blow! And Joe knows it - he said himself before the Kessler fight he needed to cement his legacy and he would move mountains in his last couple of fights to do it! He was right! Now he has the chance to continue the good work he did against Kessler by fighting Dawson at some stage.

Screw that! Haters will always find a reason to hate...Joe proved he deserved the respect of all by taking on Kessler. He will prove it again if he takes on Dawson.

I know you don't care what some very good analysts say because you trust your own judgement very much too. Good for you! They do too, after all!

Has Hopkins proved more in his last couple of fights than Dawson will have proved after beating Adamek and Diaconu, for example? Don't think so...

Dawson will starch Diaconu, probably in February. He might even beat a big has-been NAME afterwards to endeer him to the great American public. Then, Joe should fight him.

Hell no. But he has proved more in his career. Believe this - in general terms, both within the industry and outwith the industry, Joe will recieve more credit for retiring Hopkins than he will for beating Dawson.

For this to ever be anything other than true, Dawson would have to become a very, very good champion at the very least.
