Joe was considering fighting Pavlik but that is no longer (Thank God! - for everyone concerned, including Pavlik) on the cards. But now, if the Hopkins fight falls through, including because Bhop makes the kind of above extraordinary monetary demands that would leave Joe without a BIG money earner, Joe might call it quits, despite what he said about wanting to fight two more fights... I am serious! I cannot provide a source but I have more than a strong intuitive feeling about this. It is mainly based on the fact that Joe wants to cement his legacy, retire unbeaten and finish on a high, all at the same time. :deal

Even if the Hopkins fight happens, Joe would retire after it!!!

It is up to us to convince Joe that it is NOT Hopkins that he needs to focus on and that despite the acclaim from non-knoweldgeable casual fans and a boxing/media establishment that was often unfair to Joe, fighting Hopkins would NOT help cement Joe's legacy MOST, at this point in time...instead, Joe needs to carry on the good work started with Kessler by fighting the very best and most dangerous to him RIGHT NOW...not those who would have been so in the past...it is a fight against him who would cement his legacy most.

Please, join me in the campaign to make Joe carry on for at least another fight and to make that one fight count against the very best! Thank you!:good

Let us start by finding out who this "very best" would be...

I am not peddling scaremongery or using this as a strategy to make Joe fight a certain fighter next. I would have laughed at the view I expressed in the opening post a week ago but now this is what I think. As I say, it's not just a hunch, even though I cannot give a source. The fact that Joe has slowed down a bit has also something to do with it...

Benard is todays consummate cherry picker and most likely sees nothing about Calzaghe he'd like to deal with. The chin, the stamina, and the work rate will not seem appealing to B-Hop.Calzaghe would be more effective at 175 than was Winky, who is best at 154, and Hopkins knows this.Don't hold your breath waiting for Calzaghe-Hopkins.

No he won't. He'll probably fight Clinton Woods for the IBF belt.

Everyone saw Tarver as "the man" at 175lbs. Bernard decimated him and then everyone jumped ship. Then people were saying Winky could even be second on the lists, and Bernard takes him apart as well. Cry me a river.

Exactly. Nard ws the underdog against Tito. Then after he beats his ass, people say Tito was too small. He was the underdog against Tarver and kicks his ass all over the ring, then all of a sudden Tarver was weight drained. Winky was the favorite just 2 weeks before the fight. Nard schools his ass, yet people still don't give him his proper respect. If he fights Calzaghe, he'll beat his ass too.

The money and acclaim will keep him around for at least 3 more fights, Bute would be a possibility and Warren would be keen on Bute or Clinton Woods, then Dawson perhaps.

Please, this topic is so old, Joe is not going to retire.

Joe stated he wanted only 2 or 3 more after Lacy to secure himself financially, but the 'big fights' financially weren't available in any route but Kessler.

Woods + Calzaghe in the UK is big money for Woods and Calzaghe, as would be Calzaghe vs. Bute.

Calzaghe vs. Dawson also draws a lot anywhere.

Don't worry.... good fights will come, Joe's going to be fighting in 2008.

You guys are on ****ing drugs, seriously. Forget Tito, BHop was still relatively young then. He fought a great fight that night.

BHop is not 35 any more. He's 42

    Who made Winky favourite? Who?

Winky was a FAT 170. 160 is too high a weight for him FFS.

Tarver was weight drained, and fought like a chump.

Are you forgetting he LOST to Taylor TWICE??????????????

Thanks for posting that interview, it was great. I'm starting to feel really ******ed (or maybe self neglected) for not having been a Joe C. fan all along. But it has been hard for me to find material of him.

Those "losses" were highly debateable. Vegas made Winky the favorite, Vegas. At 42 , Nard is at about 70%. This is still good enough to beat an 80% Calzaghe

Even if Calzaghe wasn't able to get the Hopkins fight (which he would win), he would probably fight Woods. I don't see him retiring just yet.
