No he wasn't. He had the worse defense with poor head movement, he plodded so has the worst footwork and he had a lazy jab.

Great for his time but boxing standards improved after his day.

Ali said a lot of things, many of them were recognized as bluster and braggadocio. He was the Greatest heavyweight imo, but only due to his skills, not the at times quite dubious veracity of his comments.

 

I'm not actually that knowledgeable as far as boxing goes. I just don't like people using terrible arguments to prop his favorite fighters or hate least favorite ones.

 

Louis was superior to Lennox defensively. Got hit a lot less often. Lennoxs offense may well have been his best defense though. One of the best jabs and accurate punchers all time. Louis threw better combos and was faster. I’d pick Lewis heads up but I wouldn’t discount Louis to KO him.

 

I've explained to you what Louis does incorrectly. He's flat footed, slow, plods, throws his jab short and has poor defensive head movement. Sorry if it hurts your feelings

Lennox was down just twice in his career. Louis was down multiple times by Schmelling, Marciano, Walcott and also knocked down by Bradock and Buddy Baer. Louis also had close and maybe controversial decisions against Godoy and IIRC Farr. These opponents are way below Lewis's opponents.

They both fought to the same age, 37.

 

Lewis and Bowe weren`t champs during that period.

 

Louis had better fundamentals than Lewis, he was a much better combo puncher, Lewis got jabbed a lot by Bruno and Mercer who were not as skilled as Louis was.

 

Louis had fast hands and missed less right hands than Lewis did v Bruno.
