If Joe Smith Jr KO's Hopkins he won't get any credit

He will get credit, but not a whole lot.

Because he is fighting an old, inactive, clearly past it semi-retired senior citizen. That's hardly just an opinion anymore.
That the guy still fought at the top level 2 years ago is a statement to his greatness, but don't forget he got spanked and schooled for 12 onesided rounds doing so too.

If Smith Jr. knocks out Hopkins he should take the mic and say that he knocked out another tomato can.

 

Depends on the performance too. If Hopkins looks anywhere near what he used to be Smith will get plenty of credit.
