After humiliating Jim Jeffries on July the 4th 1910,Champion Jack Johnson lived high on the hog,he had made an absolute fortune from the fight and would not defend his title again until 2 years later to the day, when he toyed with Fireman Jim Flynn until the Police haltled the affair Let us suppose that instead of indulging his appetites, which were considerable, Johnson was back in the ring ,ready to defend his title in February 1911,and in the same shape as he had been for Jeffries. Whom of the three great black trio of Langford,Jeannette,McVey,do you give the best chance of defeating him at this point? Whichever one you choose ,do you think he would have beaten Jack at this point? Note that I am not interested in whether they deserved the opportunity to do so ,that I think we can take as a given. I want your choice of opponent from the three and your opinion as to the likely result.
I think Langford was better, but maybe Jeanette would do better against Johnson, then again Langford's punch might be the best shot. I'll need to think about it more. If Johnson is in good shape, I think he would be extremely unlikely to lose. Edit: Might be a bit soon for Jeannette actually, I'll need to look at some of the reports form that time.
Id say Langford beats Johnson. From what I've read about him hr was beating a better quality of guys that Jack was defending against .He'd be confident against Jack and eager to claim revenge over him I don't see him stopping Jack but being sharp Enough to score a clean decision over him .
