he was too interested in showing head and body movement and looking for angles and **** and trying to look good instead of throwing a damn punch. i don't believe that hopkins is capable of ko'ing jones no matter how many times they fought. an aussie guy called billy dib did the same thing against steven luevano. he poked his chin out, danced around, did somersaults and pretty much everything except throw a bloody punch and wondered why he didn't win the fight. he thought he was so good he'd just turn up and show a little flair and he would impress the judges.
if he threw a punch he would put himself at risk to being countered. it just wasn't a risk he was willing to take. :verysad
I'm a HUUUUGE Roy fan, but he gets me super angry watching him fight lately. Oops I mean watching him stand there and throw single pitiful jabs every 30 seconds and covering up on the ropes. It's annoying, he has to retire and NEVER come back. Sorry Roy it's the truth!!
I am not sure. I think had he thrown more he would have been open to more punches. anyway, Jones seems to be so aware that he has slowed that he does not throw punches anymore.
His timing is **** so it's hard for him to throw good punches. I think Ray Robinson said something like,"When you're older you find openings and when you go for them they're not there anymore". I could be wrong but I think SRR said that.
There where so many times last night that Roy went to throw a counter punch and just couldnt pull the trigger. I felt really bad for him last night. But on the other hand even though he lost he still kinda beat Hopkins. I certainly dont feel the same about Hopkins anymore as well was everyone at the sports bar I was at. All of the unneccisary rolling around on the floor and caatching his breathe along with all the fouls he did had some real heavy booing at my spot as well as the actual fight. He lost alotta respect last night from alot of people.i hope to watch him fight Haye so Haye could knock him clear out within 8.
of course he would get countered sometimes but he is still quick enough to get in first. he just seemed to think he could show a bit of head movement etc. and talk to people in the crowd and the judges would give him the nod. if u don't throw punches u can't win. seems jones forgot. it doesn't say much for hopkins that he didn't dominate the fight a little more than he did.
