Yeah, I did. Because I use that one emoticon in that one specific way for one specific reason. It was unique to me and enabled me to quickly find where people had responded to me when scrolling through pages of old threads.

I had been doing that with the hat icon on thousands of posts over a span of years, when this guy suddenly started using the exact same icon in the exact same way. Which ****s up the entire reason I do it.

So I (politely) asked him (once, via private message) to please choose another icon, and stated my reasons for asking.

He turned around and cursed me out. Then claimed that he was using the icon like that first. Then posted my private message on the lounge (very much against the rules, but I never complained or made a big deal about it) and has since gone on to establish himself in the majority opinion as one of the 3 or 4 worst posters in the lounge. Literally nobody takes him seriously, he is mocked and treated as a ******.

And when all this happened, 18 months ago, I put the guy on ignore and have not interacted with him since. :yep

This was when he first showed up. I had no ****ing idea who he was or what he was like. I sent him a polite message rather than get hostile right off the bat. :good

First thing I said to him - "This is going to sound weird and somewhat anal."

Also I was very polite, asking rather than demanding. The request is full of "Could you please" and "this would be very much appreciated" and "thank you, take care" type statements.

Then he revealed himself as the poster he is, so (also by one solitary private message) I told him to **** himself, called him an *******, and then ignored him for the next 18 months and counting, while continuing to post in the lounge.

Again, hardly the same thing at all. :good

Not that it matters, but obviously everyone is free to use the hat icon however they like.

I use one particular icon in one particular way. Two lines down from the last thing I typed, to sign off my post. There is a reason behind why I do that, and I have been doing it on here for several years.

Anyone else is free to do it, but why would you? It's the same as copying somebody's avatar or username. Just find another picture or handle, who cares? :conf

That was the end of it as far as I was concerned. But then in an attempt to get a rise out of me, he ran around posting the private messages on the lounge. Which is a bannable offence, and the only reason any of you know this conflict even happened.

I didn't respond to him doing that. Didn't try to get him banned, just ignored him from that point on. What a tantrum eh. :-(

You didn't read his response, which was way over the top in how aggressive it was. The reason you haven't read that private message is because I didn't post it in the lounge. :nono

So after making a polite request and getting verbally abused for it, I told him to go **** himself. Once. Via PRIVATE message. And then I've ignored him for coming on two years, despite his best attempts to provoke me. Hardly an extended public freakout like Popkins here. :-(
