if it did happen (Which i don't think it will) but if hopkins does **** off and fight RJJ instead then i think it says more about the balls, or lack of, of the good ol' usa's best fighters in calzaghes weight region.

If the said scenario happens as above, I fail how any blame can be put on Joe. He has tried to nail this fight for 4 years. Through no fault of his own, it hasn't happened.

Besides, Calzaghe v Kessler took about 2 months to get official confirmation after everything was supposedly agreed.

indeed. this is just a fan taking a wild stab in the dark. although if nothing official is announced this week, then RJJ wins at the weekend, then i may be just a little worried.

Who said he was afraid? As he says himself, he's a businessman first. He can make more money from a RJJ fight and stay on the merry-go-round for a lot longer. It's not great for genuine boxing fans and will go back on his "I'm not interested in Roy Jones Jnr, the only fight I want is against Joe Calzaghe"... it'll be interesting to see how he would backtrack from that given that we "have an oral agreement and those have stood up for the last 6 years of my career".

Still, it would make sure that he will "never lose to a white boy"

the original poster was saying he has a feeling that if RJJ wins this weekend that hopkins will drop the calzaghe bout and go after RJJ instead as a swansong bout and look to avenge that defeat 73 years ago.

if that did happen then how exactly could you lay the blame at calzaghe's door?

anyway it's just what one guy thinks, hardly a big issue.

Hopkins should fight Calzaghe or retire. The Jones fight can wait if he wants that one to be his swan song, Roy needs another named opponent after Tito.

"If he's willing to come here, we can get the ball rolling. The man went on national TV and said: 'Bernard don't have to come over to the UK, I'll fight him in his backyard'. I hope some discussions take place while he's here and we can get the next big Europe-America fight on," Hopkins said. "The fight would be at 175lb for my undisputed light-heavyweight championship. I'll be ready when Calzaghe gets to Vegas, I'm always ready. If you want a time-frame, spring or June. I'd love it to be close to 4 July, because there's a lot of American history involved.

"I'm not interested in Roy Jones or Felix Trinidad, I've been there, done that. Joe's undefeated and I want to be the one who gets rid of his '0'. That would be an accomplishment at this late stage in my career - I'm 43 on 15 January. I need a reason to get up at 5.30 in the morning. I need to say 'this guy has a zero that I can turn into a one' to get me the hell out of bed."
