He certainly looked into the options, but it is hard to be sure exactly why it fell through.

Whatever the outcome, it would have been in the interests of both parties to take it.

Both parties were heading for a beating anyway, so they might as well have made a big fight out of it.

    From what I've read:

Tyson had too many things going on in his crazy life mid-to-late 2003.

Don King and Murad Muhammad got too greedy during negotiations with Jim Thomas (Evander's attorney) and King wouldn't pay Evander money that was owed to him from a previous fight.

I'll try and find you some links.

    All sounds plausible enough.

old sanders retired would have been ok for roy. jnr would simply need to avoid him for 4 rounds.

the one who reached much higher and got into contention in his prime would stop jones.

Fat failed sanders would have put RJJ in ICU. He wasn't Ruiz who hit like one of the Spice Girls and was so slow that he had to shave again by the time he let himself out of the front door in the mornings. I can barely think of a worse matchup for Jones at HW.

na i dont agree at all, maybe he could if roy slipped up, but all prime roy hs got to do is keep away till he gasses out latest round 5. thats not difficult for someone superlative like roy jones junior.

and dont diss Ruiz relative to sanders, John was a weak titlist but at least he won a world title fair and square. Ruiz beats old fat sanders too, locks him up for 5 hard rounds and then kos him with ease once gassed.

Actually I do. I had to bury my GF's horse two years ago. You have no idea the size of hole that was needed. My core is sensational ;)

Roy went up to HW because he wa running out of time. He had been declining for 5 years and they were saying that he had "proven he was not the same fighter he once was" 3 years before the move to HW after one of his fights on espn Friday night fights. Hbo kept pretending like nothing was changing, saying that he was "trying to prove a point by getting hit more" in his fights. but he was slowing down bad from the first griffin fight on. He would have been eaten alive at HW

I just couldn't see Roy doing anything better than his win over ruiz to be honest. I think he new it to. He was lucky in some respects that ruiz was a champ at that time, any other champ I feel would have been to much for him. U can have all the skills in the world but when you're body s designed for middle weight to lightheavy, at a push, then facing heavy s at some point your going to suffer. I would have been watching through fingers over eyes if he'd took on tua!!
