If Jones retired after blanking Ruiz, where would he rank all-time?

If you never have a dancing partner, you're never given the opportunity to prove your abilities at the level that puts you into the top 10.

Roy may have been in the top 10 if his career was a bunch of James Toney and Bernard Hopkins wins, but I won't put a guy in the top 10 for looking spectacular against a heavy bag.

You have to do it where it counts, and unfairly for him, no one was good enough to take him to that point.

He would've been considered undefeated, his one loss obviously a DQ. He was maybe the most physically gifted fighter EVER. He toyed with opponents and was never in trouble. I think given this situation, people would've ranked him a bit higher than what he should've been ranked.

For those of you who know, i think he would've been in the class of someone like Sandy Koufax (great pither with amazing 5 year stretch but short career) or Gale Sayers (great running back, short career) in that, he didn't have the length of fights like the other top 10 ATGs but while he fought, he was just spectacular. And him having not lost and having possessed such amazing talents, it would've been easy for people to rank him very high.

Clearly, you're impressed by Roy, k; where do you think he'd deserve to be rated if he stopped after Ruiz?

Well, i'm not good at this ATG rating stuff. But i think given what i said, he would've been easily rated in the top 20 by most fans.

Jones should have quit while he was ahead.
