If Joseph Parker had a bit more Mongrel in him he'd be no.1 Heavyweight.

I think he has most of the tools to be the best heavyweight but just lacks the hunger and mongrel needed to be the best.
Anybody else think he's too laid back to assert his dominance?

I liken it to how Deontay Wilder is atm. Now he's at a stage he doesn't seem to care too much whether he wins or loses he just is not gunna dominate like before.

    Agree?

He's not so much calm as calculating.

If anything it suits him better - trying to be overly aggressive and assertive just doesn't suit his attributes and skills... See the Joyce fight what happens when he fights too unrestrained and aggressive.

Not really fair to put Parker in the same sentence as Wilder, either - he's way more proven.
Wilder asserted his dominance by avoiding anyone too good, albeit a couple of cherrypicks went wrong (Fury being too many levels beyond him, needing referee help in Ortiz 1) - nobody wants Parker to look more dominant by avoiding prime legit contenders.

    Very good fighter but ....

Not as skilled as Usyk (obviously)
Doesn't have the physical advantages of Fury
Doesn't have the power of the likes of Joshua/Zhang/Bakole/Dubois

But he is arguably the best mover in the division, Usyk aside, very good ring IQ (the Joyce fight aside) and a tough tough fghter.

Nothing wrong with his attitude - he's challenged himself with tough fights recently and come out on top.

I just think he has too many limitations to be a dominant #1 even if Usyk and Fury retire soon.

If Deontay Wilder could actually box, he'd have been the # 1 HW
If Fury could punch he'd be top 10 of all time
If Fat Andy was "Lean" Andy he'd have been the # 1 HW for longer
If Michael Hunter was more dedicated, he could've been the # 1 HW.

    You see where I'm going..............

A lack of grit or heart is not Parker's problem; his achievements within the heavyweight division are commensurate with the talent he has

Parker isn't like Wilder at all. Wilder never had the tools to be number one; he just avoided anyone with a pulse for most of his career and got squished when did.

Parker arguably has the physical tools, although the physically best version of Parker is long past. His reach and lack of power was always a problem, although his power could probably drastically increase with more sharpness and a less predictable attack pattern. Povetkin didn't have huge raw power but would knock opponents unconscious with his impeccable timing, precision and technique.

He'd never beat Usyk though. No one does.

Parker is an example of a great boxing story, after many had written him off, he returned to the top of boxing, and that would not have been possible for many, a great fighter...

I would put Kabayel as the #2 mover in the division behind Usyk tbh.

    This.

This is what happens when he has that "Mongrel" attitude. Parker isn't bigger than most of his opponents so he needs to smarter.

He threw the kitchen sink at Joe Joyce and Joyce obliterated him. He was incredibly poor against Whyte, he was ragdolled and manhandled like a little boy, but due to Whyte's poor fitness had him in bother at the end. He was timid against Joshua and didn't even try to do anything - the referee was poor but these excuses are a joke. Would Mike Tyson have let that referee stop him from getting to Joshua? Never.

Parker is one of the most boring boxers around. He got a points decision against Zhang, basically because he bored the life out of everyone watching and Zhang is very old. A younger Zhang would've stopped him, but he has poor stamina.

A good gatekeeper type of boxer.
