If Joshua beats Wladimir will he get the credit for it?

AJ is the new mayweather. Every time he beats someone, theres an excuse like he was old, he was green, he was a bum.

I think AJ will beat Klitschko impressively. People will point out that Klitschko is older and passed his prime without a doubt which does have some grounds to it. Either way I think the win will put Joshua as the top heavyweight in the world and hopefully will lead to a match up with Wilder, Ortiz or Fury

 

Sadly he'll get more credit than Fury.

Wlad has been slipping for a couple of years but AJ beating a 41yo, out for 17 months Wlad will be perceived and honoured more than the version of Wlad that Fury best.

Sad state of affairs, although I think Wlad beats AJ.

 

But he hasn't fought beyond British level yet.

 

Wlad is definitely not the fighter he was at his peak. He just doesn't seem to be able to pull the trigger, a common sign of the aging boxer so like it or not a win for AJ will have some downgrading. It will be a good win for him but it will forever be seen in the context of what it is: A one time great, now a bit past it, coming up short against the young gun.

The best result for AJ's legacy is if the fight is not a blow out but a fight where Wlad turns back the clock and demonstrates some his past skill level. A fight that actually elevates the status of BOTH fighters. If AJ takes him out early the naysayers will have a field day and unfortunately for AJ they will have merit to their argument.

 

AJ will definitely get more credit than Fury, because AJ will defend his belt unlike Fury. Fury chickened out when the spotlight was on him and the pressure to perform was on. AJ is not mentally weak like Fury is.

 

Some will give him credit some won't. He'll always have critics, just as every fighter has, you can never please or win over everyone. Some will say Wlad was too far past his best, and they are right but he's still right now regarded as one of the top fighters of the division and you can't really ask anything other than that from him at this point.

Some will look to discredit the win completely saying he's still unproven, others will go over the top and say he would of done the same to prime Wlad. The truth will be somewhere in between.

Even if Joshua crushes Wlad, completely blows him out of the water in a few rounds, it still doesn't mean Joshua is number 1 in the division. That title still belongs to Fury until he can be knocked off the top spot or retires. A win over Wlad will prove Joshua is not hype and is a genuine top level heavyweight but he will still have a lot to prove to be regarded as the very best or a future ATG.

 

A good bank credit at least

 

I don't think he'll get more credit because Fury was the man to do it first against a younger Wlad. But he'll get more recognition for it because as you say he will reaffirm the win with future victories and he'll also hopefully not distract from the achievement through some kind of controversy like Fury did.

 

The ironic things is that AJ will get more credit prevailing in a tough rough fight with Wlad than he would for bashing him up in 3 rounds.

 

That''s a load of bulsh*t. For the simple reason that, Joshua really hasn't beaten anyone of note yet.

 

I expect the most fearful Wlad ,he has never lost a rematch, hes never lost back to back , he knows a loss can be it this time regardless of rematch claus so motivation is there . If Joshua wins it easily puts him over everyone and if Wlad wins imop it puts him over any HW in history at 41 to defeat such a big threat . Fury is no where near a threat to a fast power punching aggressive fighter who wont be playing tag he will be looking to play knock Wlads head off from the opening bell.
