It’s a little known fact that being fat & specifically obese helps your punch resistance. Just think of the excess / extra padding on the chin... body etc.

 

He didn't come even close to finishing the fight in the 3rd. Look at how Ruiz's feet were positioned when he got knocked down. Poor footwork/positioning got Ruiz knocked down.

In comparison to Joshua, Ruiz was barely hurt at all by that shot.

 

The way the exchanges were going, even if he hadn't taken that particular shot, he would have taken another sooner rather than later.

Joshua got back in the fight but was broken down with punches to the body before the last round. It wasn’t about the temple shot by the end.
