If Khan beats Zab impressivley would he be #1 @ 140?

Yeah, maybe but for me the difference between the two would have to be a lot more marked than it is before I'd move the existing number 1 down a place.

They just have to fight each other to prove it. Bradley sitting idle, doesn't help his cause.

 

Bradley has no choice but to "sit idle", if he wanted to leave Shaw, he had to right off the rest of 2011.

 

I don't understand. His contract finishes with him at the end of 2011, I assume?

But why does he have to sit idle in the mean time? Isn't it better to remain active under him, as oppose to not night fighting at all? Or is it a case of, if he signs for another fight, it will prolong his commitment to Shaw?

The extended it, I think. So they could fit a Khan fight in there. Bradley agreed to this earlier on in the year. But changed his mind after.

 

No, it expired June 30th. But he will of known the outcome, which has since happened, which is that Gary Shaw and friends begin legal action against him which will take months to resolve, and in the meantime prevent him from signing with another promoter.

If he fights under Shaw it just continues pushing out the date at which he can get away from him, this has been going on a while. Bradley is at the point where he no longer wants to be having the biggest fights of his career under the promotional banner of Shaw.

This is why he said throughout the Khan negotiations that it wasn't enough money. He wasn't just thinking in terms what the fight was worth , which 1.4million is great, but it was the costs of the consequences of agreeing to another fight with Shaw, which to him the effects on his career were not worth 1.4million.

Of course you'll find Khan fans on here that are convinced he ducked him....the majority of which are just trolls however.

 

I see Shaw is now suing Bradley.

 

Khan should be #1, Bradley doesn't want to fight him, how can Khan overtake him if Bradley won't fight him.

That Khan-Bradley hasn't happened in the intervening 6 months since then isn't really that big of a deal or surprise. If we're still having this conversation this time next year then that'd probably be a different matter....

 

The number three guy at 140 is Maidana.

 

When Bradley fought Alexander, Alexander was number 3.

My point was that 6 months ago the number 1 and the number 3 in the division fought and Bradley won. The fact that Bradley hasn't fought Khan in the 6 short months since then isn't really a factor when ranking the 2 boxers IMHO.

 

Ok, I’ve just done a bit of googling.

Back in October 2010, Bradley signed a two-fight contract with Shaw and HBO to put in place that unofficial 140 tournament thingy. This contract was due to end in June, but HBO’s only available date for the 2nd fight was in July. So Bradley was happy with an extension (3 weeks) to make the Khan fight.

His decision to not keep to his word is what’s made Shaw proceed with legal action.

And what effects are you talking about? It was just one more fight under Shaw, wasn’t it? That improved 1.4 million offer, would have been even more with the 50/50 split on UK revenue. If he’d have gone ahead with that fight, he would have been a free agent after with no complications.

But Bradley, in an interview after, practically admitted he was holding out for a Pacquiao fight next year, and that he wasn’t too keen on any risky fights in the mean time that could jeopardize that opportunity. That sounds like a case of ‘avoiding a fight’, to me. Most people would rightfully call that a duck.
