If Khan can't fight in Sept, why fight on the undercard??

First of all, I want to preface this by saying I respect an athlete that puts his religion and his beliefs ahead of his career and boxing. However, I just find this totally puzzling that Khan fought on Mayweather's undercard in hopes of getting the Mayweather fight. But is not willing to fight on that September date due to Ramadan. If he knew this was the case, wouldn't it have been better to just headline your own card? Or is the exposure on a Mayweather card much more valuable?

In addition, I'm curious why Amir Khan absolutely cannot train at all during Ramadan. From my understanding he cannot eat from sun up to sun down. Would it be disrespectful for him to rearrange his schedule to train and eat mostly during evening hours (which Mayweather already does from what I understand). I suppose this would be a huge difficulty for his support staff like his conditioning guy and Hunter having to work weird hours. But at the same token, a Mayweather fight is a ONCE in a lifetime opportunity. I would think he would be the one who could understand that more than anyone. Also, I remember reading that Hakeem Olajuwon's game stats (in basketball) actually improved during Ramadan. And he was forced to play games at 7pm which meant he went the whole day without food and drink leading up to game time.

I understand religion is a sensitive topic. So of course I do not mean any disrespect by this post. Just had curiosity...I would hope the rest of this forum's community will not stoop to lower levels and keep this topic on a level that shows respect.

not sure if the commentator got it right on. ramadhan this year is late june to late july. they will be long days in the UK though... so he could train through ramadhan and would still have whole of august too

It looks like Maidana is going to get the nod anyhow. but a Khan fight I think would be great also. In fact, this would be a great Sept card right here:

    Khan - Mayweather
    Maidana - Broner

Winner fights winner. Loser fights loser.

Amazing post. I wondered that as well, I mean, the whole reason he was on the card was to be next and everyone knows the two dates Floyd books in the year.

As for the training during Ramadan, I can get why Amir would not want to risk anything for a Floyd fight... He really wants to win and doesn't want to take a chance that fasting might present.

During ramadhan which is due to begin end of June through till late July sunrise will be at around 3am and sunset at 9pm in the UK. The days are too long to do any effective training.

Training would be in San Francisco, I believe at Hunter's gym.

Just because you're on the undercard doesn't mean that you got next. When was the last time Mayweather fought a guy in his next fight that was on the top undercard of his PPV?

Khan said it takes him around a month after Ramadan to recover and said something about fighting in November or December when he can get a proper training camp in. He obviously wants the fight but it will have to wait until May next year when he can prepare properly unless he chooses to skip it or Floyd chooses to fight in Nov/Dec.

Fasting in UK will be for around 18 hours a day for 30 days. No food or drink.
It's a bit silly to ask someone to do strenous physical training then.
Boxing is a completely different sport to american football etc. let's not get into that.

Does anyone think that with the cut, Mayweather will be ready to go again in 4 months.

It'll take at least 6 weeks before he can start sparring again without risking it to reopen.

And IDK, if Floyd still has enough razzle dazzle to fight another come forward slugger so soon after being roughed up in the Maidana fight.

I think Floyd will look for a late October date, and will probably be looking for a fight vs someone less aggressive. Maybe Lara if he beats Canelo.

    Just my guess.:think

Martinez owes HBO another fight, so that fight is out of the question for 2014. Mayweather's cut should be fine. They were able to stop the bleeding during the fight and it never opened back up.
