It was quite the achievement at the time. Right around the time I started to watch boxing regularly. Was a Khan fan for a few years. Then he began to grind on me.
It isn't so much his chin as his reckless aggression. He comes out firing pistons leaving his chin on a plate to anyone with a left hook. I don't even think he's able to survive a fight with Ortiz, let alone Floyd
His whole opposition to this point would be different if he did, so who knows. While at 140 he did have some good wins (Kotelnik, Paulie), he really only faced and defeated one ranked fighter who was known as having good power (Maidana; big power who he went to war with so props to Khan for this one). Zab can get an honorable mention as having "in-between" power from the two relative extremes.
Ortiz of 2010-2011, I would have picked Ortiz big and still would with hindsight (largely due to the weight, as well as styles/skills). Ortiz after the Mayweather or Josesito losses? Khan smokes him to a 117-111 type UD, and that would be a best case scenario for Oritz (other than obscure chance of an early KO).
Well, if we look at the order of where Khan was at, it is quite clear that Ortiz is the only actual name you can list there. Even then, that is ignoring Ortiz establishing himself at WW while Khan at the time had never once fought above 140... Guerrero fight was a week or two after Khan beat Diaz, which was still a "comeback" sort of fight for him at the 143 catchweight. Guerrero was at a better place in his career than Khan was when that fight was signed and that isn't even really debatable... Then Khan went inactive for over a year to return on May's undercard, finally fighting his first fringe-contender at WW to deserve the fight at all. So Maidana I can't apply either and Maidana II cannot as Khan doesn't fight that time of year for religious purposes... Even through all that, Khan is still unranked by many and no higher than 9th or 10th by those who do rank him at WW. So you tell me, does Khan even deserve the fight now? Because I'd have to say that, even fresh off the big loss, Shawn Porter is a more deserving and more established opponent at WW. Khan has blown his opportunities of having a case for himself through either losing or being way too inactive. The timelines didn't make sense for Mayweather/Khan and, honestly, they still really don't. Khan W Judah @ 140 Mayweather W Ortiz Khan L L. Peterson @ 140 Mayweather W Cotto Khan L D. Garcia @ 140 Khan W C. Molina @ 140 Khan W J. Diaz @ 143 Mayweather W Guerrero Mayweather W Alvarez Mayweather W Maidana I / Khan W Collazo @ 147 Mayweather W Maidana II
i don't think he has a horrible chin. world class fighters just punch hard and anyone can get knocked out when they're hit on the button. not a big khan fan either but I've been dome checked in the jaw, i didn't get kod but was blind for ten seconds or so, couldn't imagine doing that for 36 minutes x 30 some odd fights.

I'd just like him to prove he's the best Welterweight in the country before going gold digging against Mayweather.
