What would be next for Khan? How far of a setback would this be? On One hand, Khan knows he can't get caught fighting on the inside so i see him moving all night, and Peterson knows he can't let Khan move all night so he'll be going in on the inside. No, i'm not an expert as you can tell. Only very recently got into boxing.
It wouldn't be a shock at all for me if Khan were to lose against Peterson again. One training camp won't be enough time for Roach and Khan to completely address Khan's flaws. Peterson's initial gameplan was not the one they finished with, but I'd take a guess that Peterson will be starting with the very successful gameplan from round 1 next time.
On the other hand, Khan will also know he can't get caught on the inside so will be making more of an effort to move. Which is what will make it exciting to watch. I guess the question is if Peterson can keep the pressure on for 12 rounds. He seemed to lose steam for a few in the fight.
Nice thread :good If he losses he will have to fight some lesser fights in order to become the mandatory belts if he wants to win world belts again, he would lose the buzz around him IMO. I think Peterson will find it hard to get near Khan because Khan will sit on his punches more than last time and fight with A LOT more discipline. I think there is more Khan can change about the way he fought as a pose to Peterson who pretty much has to fight the same. IMO Khan wins comfortably. Many disagree with me though.
If I were Khan I would never fight Peterson again, let the GB handle the politics and get the decision overturned then ignore Peterson, you don't give a rematches to a technical fighter that already exposed you once before, plus Peterson now has the mental edge of making Khan push, literally run and shamelessly turn his back at the times.
I don't think Khan's got the footwork or stamina to keep Peterson off for 12 rounds (he was literally running away at times). IMO Roach MUST have Khan sit down on his shots more, then move, repeat. Khan does not have earth shattering power, but he has respectable power, and that's the only way he can keep opponents off him now...plant feet, then move.
Won't work for Khan his offense is his defense, if he stops throwing pitter pat punches which overwhelms most opponents, then thats when the holes in the defense presents itself, and he'll get that glass jawed touched more often Basically Khan is unproven and has a lot to learn, he should be focused on at least fighting the best at 140 before even opening up his big mouth and mentioning the P4p fighters at 147, I mean it's shameful how people to him u on a pedistal after beating a shot Judah saying he fights the best when he hasn't faced Morales, Bradley, Matthysse, Alexander, and still owes Madiana a rematch, Khan is all big mouth and smoke and mirrors
At this stage we all know that Khan wont be fighting Mayweather anytime soon. I think Peterson will win the rematch unless its in UK. Bradley will punch/headbutt Khan silly.
It would work a whole lot better than what tactics he is using now, especially considering that any future opponent will try to walk Khan down, trap him on the ropes or in the corner...and smash through his horrible shell guard. The only way you're going to gain the respect of opponents like that is to put a bit of pop into the punches. In turn meaning Khan will have to sit on his punches more, then offer his opponent some movement. Can he do this? Who knows, but he can stun and hurt opponents if/when he does. He just doesn't do it very often.
If khan loses again, his career and ambitions are down the drain... He shouldnt even have had a fight this close with.peterson. Hes touted as being far above this level.. I am certain though Khan will win in a rematch
It's not over for Khan if he loses the rematch. It would just show that Peterson has his number. He should just trump it up to having troubles making 140 and move up to 147 as he intended. He'll still get big fights there.
:deal Plus in anybody opinions who are not biased would have seen that Khan won at least 7 rounds, and without the fouls, and missed knockdown, it would have been a easy UD. You're right it would be the smart thing to do, but his style would get him killed at 147 I don't think Khan and is ego would allow him to go on with life after being exposed, and having his will broken down in the ring like that though
He'd obviously drop a level and perhaps have to rematch the likes of Maidana or even Prescott. I don't think Khan lost the 1st fight with Peterson. What he needs to address is his punching power, be it through sheer bulking up (which would result in a direct move up to 147), or enchanced stamina so he can maintain more snap in the later rounds (staying at 140 for another 1/2 fights). I don't think it'd be possible to enhance his technique, hes too set in his ways and will have it firmly implanted (under Roach's tuition), that the in/out offense tactic is the only way. The time to address his major flaws would have been during the amateurs where they weren't so glaringly obvious, making it near impossible. That said, we have to understand that not everybody is Floyd Mayweather. Almost every top class fighter will have their strengths/weaknesses and unless discovered early, weaknesses are almost impossible to address. Strengths on the over hand can be improved, just got to be careful not to sacrifice anything else in the process.
No because he will get warned for leading with the head this time regardless of whether we think it's illegal or he even did that (which I don't think he did although he basically fought like a hunchback) , Khan will have a ref on his side warning peterson if he starts coming in with the top of his head. It does seem that many american boxers do get a pass on the leading with head stuff including ward who leaps in with his head and a punch just like hopkins does. One thing is for sure and that is there will be a khan ref in there probably joe cortez I don't think peterson has his number AT ALL btw all I can see is a UD for khan in a rematch as this was a decision for khan which he threw away lets not forget that peterson didn't win it khan threw it away.
