If Khan wants to continue to box he must change back to safety first approach..

I take your points on board, but I disagree, Khan playing by the book fighting text books gives anyone problems around his weight, that's why it's pains me to see Khan throw that away and fight these guys instead of boxing, hit and move.

Speed is a great weapon, he needs to use it better.

No he isnt. His defense, both technique & radar are far more advanced than Khan's.

it was not a tough fight? as in, he looked good for the first tiny fraction of the fight? if it had gone on longer it would have ended the exact same way. Garcia would have landed a shot just like that if Khan somehow managed to dodge that neck punch. Its ALMOST as bad as Hatton winning against Pac before he got banged out

    I think I see what you're saying.

Anything that I feel is unjustified criticism of Amir, I always stand up for. A lot of the threads nowadays just say a load of bull**** that I can't be bothered to argue against because I know they wouldn't understand it.

I'm quite surprised the Bradley-Peterson fight made you think the opposite. I agree with the majority of your points. Paulie and Judah were definitely impressive wins, but not the amazingly great performances. I'm not going to say I wasn't amazingly happy, because I remember watching the Judah fight back till like 8AM about 10 times over, but I just wasn't overly impressed with anything of his. I've just been watching so many fighters over the past couple years which I see do things so much better and when I put Amir there, I'm a little disappointed.

For example, Mauricio Herrera, the dude that fought Alvarado. Even though he lost, that man is a real good fighter. His punch selection, head movement and inside game had me in awe at times. I've just learnt to like more styles whereas Amir's amateurish and repetitive style has not.

Sorry for the so much shorter post. I'm feeling horrible today. If I still didn't understand, give me tomorrow and I'll have a proper read of it.

Technique? What technique? Oh yeah, running just like Khan around the ring with your hands down and getting hit is much more advanced. It's just as porous.

    For me it's like this..

Khan's hit and run style was great for the transitional period, it looked good against passive fighters like Kotelnik and Paulie. He looked great against Judah who was doing his best Sweet Pea impression.

The hit and run style doesn't work when pressed effectively. It's far to easy to say stay at end of your jab, and stay away from trouble. Khan has engaged more because he's been foolish but believe me the blueprint is there. If you can't catch him on way in, go hunting and hunt enough and you'll find him.

Charging around the ring like a mentalist at 100mph is not a good idea, i mean what happens when the opponent starts to cut the ring down. His footwork isn't educated, he doesn't have natural upperbody movement to slide and slip way out of trouble. I don't think i've ever seen Khan set traps with his feet or his upper body.

Fighting nearer to ropes has to be a natural thing, If you give up the control of the fight and allow people to dictate your asking for trouble. Ask any pressure fighter what they prefer. A speed merchant who stays centre ring and uses his movement laterally centre ring or backing up near ropes, They will say near ropes. Especially with Khan his form and posture isn't great when he works near ropes. He doesn't have the same power in punches.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens with him, But i don't feel this ultra negative approach will do him any favors. Moment he does that, the moment fighters go hunting.

Key to Khan's success is smart matchmaking, and training camps with a trainer who's there and get back to high quality sparring. When he first went Wildcard it did change him no doubts. Just think maybe the lack of quality hasn't helped.

Khan needs to be in the gym for more then 12 weeks, he needs to dedicate himself to out of camp sessions and stop harping on about Strength and Conditioning stuff. My word that pisses me off nowadays.

That's nonsense Laz, Khan gets caught & caught cleanly far more often the Brook & has done at every stage of his career.

His lack of defensive instinct & a lack of technical ability to slip & counter shots is obvious to anyone with eyes. Khan has poor head movement, poor footwork & poor balance.

Brook has a much better defense than Khan.

Nah it's alright mate :good. Don't want to be disrespectful Laz but it's much better debating with you nowadays, you seem a lot more balanced with your views. Still, no reason not to remain a big fan of Khan, we don't have to be fans of fighters solely cos of their styles. Though like you, most of my favourite fighters now are people I enjoy watching for the way they fight, not necessarily how successful they are.

the reason why khan failed was he fell for his own hype, after the maidana fight and judah fight and to an extent when peterson got caught khans ego reach elevated levels, he brought it on himself, their was a time when i respected khan as a fighter and wanted to see him succeed but now not so much. He fights like a glorified amateur, if he had his wits about him he would have understood his style was never going to cut it at world class. i'll be surprised if he makes any big comeback on the big stage. If he was the fighter he truely believed he would never have lost to garcia or peterson. a guy whos been calling out mayweather since early 2010 should have sliced through this type of competition and not been in a life or death type situation. neither peterson or garcia are ever going to reach P4P contention. they are just average fighters

    Some very good points there.

I think that hit and move style was not perfect and your right when pressed Khan was finding it hard to adjust, but I feel there were improvements there too be made to make Khan more effective with that style when pressed, instead they opted to fight fire with fire I don't think that was the answer.

Anyway we shall see what Khan and his team come up with, and if Khan can change.

if he decides to change trainers, then he will have to really dedicate himself to that trainer and likewise. He can't afford to apply bits and pieces and then regret not doing things differently.

I'm pretty sure you watched Kell's last fight, right? Brook has no defensive instinct or lack of ability to slip and counter either. If anything, it was much worse. Kell was literally baffled and continuously took punches to the head without the thought of putting his hands up. I don't see where Kell has superior head movement, footwork and better balance. I really can't. His is just as bad, if not worse seeing as it's not proven against a higher caliber of a fighter, where Khan has at least come through harder fights to grind out a win.

I would not agree with that at all, Mo. If you have any videos or anything to suggest that it is, I'd gladly have a watch.

Cool bro, thanks. I try to be as balanced as possible but it's not easy at times when the other person isn't. Yeah, I really couldn't care about losses, man. People have just gotten way into that undefeated phase.

This is all very well but you're only saying this based on the Garcia fight, you wouldn't have made this thread had he won, quite obviously. But you're failing to acknowledge the fact he was doing what he set out to do against Garcia, he was controlling from range, peppering him with combinations...

BUT, as he always does he falls in and leaves himself exposed. Now, if you do this against reactive fighters like Kotelnik, you don't get punished. They are in a shell. It all looks grand and we praise his 'safety first' fighting. But, against a more rounded fighter like Garcia who was attempting to time his combinations throughout, it doesn't look so great. Garcia was pretty wild and missing a lot so it looked good for a few rounds, but it only took one with Khan and its over.

Bottom line, nothing to do with tactics.
