If Kovalev beats Hopkins & Stevenson, will they say "the 175 division is weak"?

    I've noticed a pattern...

When a fighter who is not from the Western hemisphere become a division champion, some people say "the division is weak" and when a division is dominated by boxers from the Western hemisphere they say "it's a deep division".

    Ever notice that?

Not surprisingly, the people who say it are mostly boxing fans, commentators and journalists from the Western hemisphere.

Now I'm from the Western hemisphere myself, but I'm able to evaluate boxers from the other side of the world on their merits and without prejudice, and so I never say "a division is weak" because the champ isn't from the same part of the world that I am.

They seem to make an exception for native Africans. Something tells me they would have been just fine with Ike or Sam Peter replacing the Klitschko's.

They are saying it now and they're actually right.

Only the current up and comers in the division seem to make it one of the strongest around again. It's a transition and Kovalev is leading the pack, that's why it's so great he's fighting Hopkins next week.

The division is top heavy with Hopkins, Kovalev, Stevenson and I guess you could say Pascal, but other than that it is weak.

Larry Holmes reigned over a weak division also. Stop with the racial bull****

If Sergay beats Hopkins and Stevenson how could anyone say the division was weak? These guys beat the best fighters to raise themselves up in the division. It would be two VERY good wins for Kov that could lead him to great things.

This thread really isnt about that though, is it? Seems to me you're just trying to set the stage with excuses is everyone doesnt like YOUR favorite fighters. After all, you're already laying blame for this when it hasnt happened, and you've already got you excuses lined up about paid off refs and judges if Hopkins beats him. In other words, you're going to continue to racially and nationalistically bait no matter who wins or how many times unless they agree about YOUR favorite fighters. Your agenda is transparent. :-(

Artur Beterbiev, Andre Dirrell, Egor Mekhontsev, Bernard Hopkins, Cory Cummings, Andrzej Fonfara, Sergey Kovalev, Jean Pascal, Vyacheslav Shabranskyy, Oleksandr Gvozdyk, Adonis Stevenson, Eleider Alvarez, Vasily Lepikhin, Juergen Braehmer, Medzhid Bektemirov, Erik Skoglund, Isaac Chilemba and Umar Salamov (age 20).

I've never seen a division with more talented fighters! :good

Plus: Nadjib Mohammedi, Igor Mikhalkin, Lucian Bute, Gabriel Campillo, Maxim Vlasov, Cedric Agnew, Doudou Ngumbu, Beibut Shumenov, Dmitry Sukhotsky, Karo Murat, Chad Dawson, Tommy Karpency and Thomas Oosthuizen

And maybe Carl Froch, Andre Ward, James DeGale, Mikkel Kessler, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, Anthony Dirrell, Sakio Bika, and Fedor Chudinov will move up.

    yeah, some will

i rate b hop and kov

adonis is just a huge puncher

its def not a stacked division

but its great the best 2 are actually fechtin one anotha

would love to see kov get adonis after this. hopkins would deal with adonis far easier than he will with kovalev. and kovalev would destroy adonis which would be verrrrry entertaining

You've just named 39 fighters. The question now is how many fights have been made amongst those 39 fighters against one another to determine how good they are? This of course has nothing to do with your original post, but since you wanted to bring it up how about an answer? Of course i know you wont answer me because you supposedly have me on ignore, but that doesnt stop you from going through my post history to bump old threads of mine, does it? :yep

Lol, no he doesnt really have me on ignore, he just says he does so he doesnt have to keep taking beatdowns every time i point out his hypocrisy. If i were on ignore he would have never bumped a Povetkin thread i made two years ago in the transparent hope i would have the same opinion i did at that time.

Urban American ppl are almost always at the front of the criticism of an eastern euro held division.

There are some exception like the nationalist Brits on about the K2 or trying to downplay the accomplishments of Bhop, Ward or any contemporary of Joe C.

Lol 175 wasn't on the radar until Stevenson and Kovalev started knocking out people. Everyone thought it was a boring division ruled by a boring Dawson who spanked over the hill Hopkins.

Hopkins at his age shouldn't be a champion, and everyone including Kovalev was calling Shumenov and Murat paper champions. The top3 are dominating everyone with ease, so it's a talented 3 and everyone else. I do rate Fonfara after his scrap with Stevenson though.

If Kovalev wins then he is a champion of an overall weak division, but he would still be considered an elite fighter for beating an elite opponent.
