If Kovalev beats Hopkins & Stevenson, will they say "the 175 division is weak"?

Its decent with the potential to get better. It ridiculous trying to tout it strong though as the TS has done by naming fighters who havent even proven themselves against each other yet but have nice glossy records. We'll know more about how good this division is in about two years, in my opinion.

Late 70's till the mid 80's. Mid to early 1920's till late 20's, early 30's was a hot era to if im not mistaken.

Half the names on this list are not black and i dont see to many people having a problem with it. Why? Because they were proven fighters....it had nothing to do with color.

I don't think Stevenson is a hype job, i mean he did KTFO Dawson and did produce some good performances at LWH. In my opinion him and Pascal would have to fight and the winner of that fight have to face the winner of Kovalev-Hopkins in order to determine who is the main man at the division. But right now Stevenson is, even though i believe that Kovalev would murder him, Hopkins will beat him (Comes down to how much Bhop has left) and a fight with Pascal is probably 50-50.

However when it comes down to the division let's be honest. Besides from: Kovalev, Hopkins, Stevenson & probably Pascal there are no really good fighters at LWH. I mean Kovalev could beat Hopkins & Stevenson and then he would basically have cleaned out the LWH scene.

Larry Holmes was a great champion and fought everybody. Some where good, some were very good and then some were excellent. The different between Holmes and the Klits is that Holmes had real skills and technique that were very recognizable. The Klits size more so than their skills is what kept them relevant in the game.

If Kolvalev beats Hopkins then he done exactly what he was supposed to do. This is Kovalev's fight to win or lose. If he loses, then it can be called a weak division because there is no way in hell Hopkins should walk out of that ring with Kovalev's belt.

    That's true.

Shame that the ******s fail to see the irony that, they call the division weak because there are no blacks in it, yet that kinda speaks volumes about the talent of modern black boxers. That they can't get a good fighter in a supposedly "weak" division.

    Bigot alert!

This is the same clown who also claimed Kovalev did not have one punch KO power.

    Oh yeah, there is Pascal.

I'd actually give Kovalev a lot more credit for stopping Pascal than for obliterating Stevenson's chin (as he would) or beating Hopkins (as he probably will next week).

Pascal and Beterbiev would be the more impressive pair of scalps.

Otherwise, not much available in the division to make your bones and build a legacy on.

That is because they are in other more lucrative sports

The boxing infrastructure has collapsed entirely in the U.S.

Republican activist judges are wrongfully imprisoning young Blacks

You just have to respect the man for what he has achieved, and what he is still achieving. Sure, he’s not always easy on the eye but there is an art to his style that makes it somewhat fascinating. If he wins this then surely he has to go down as an all time great if he’s not already there?

As for Kovalev, I don’t see him yet as quite being this special fighting machine that many think he is. His most noticeable win as of yet is perhaps Nathan Cleverly, a good but far from elite fighter that was mollycoddled by his team and promoter and probably thought he just had to turn up on the night to beat Kovalev, and was quickly given a true awakening. If he blows away Hopkins then I’ll be very impressed, but as of now I think his record is pretty average for someone that people salivate about.
