If Kovalev wins/If Ward wins Who will be the follow up opponents? Kovalev has shown great willing to take on the best opponents in facing undefeated world champ Cleverly away, Pascal away twice, Hopkins away and seemed to be wanting to put his title on the line against Ward. Ward has often been a fighter who has had home advantage and his best win IMO over Kessler was against an already beaten fighter who had not been overly active. His win over Froch was another good win for Ward but Froch was not on a good run having looked fortunate to some against Dirrell, losing to Kessler, beating Abraham coming off a defeat, looking fortunate to some against Johnson. Ward didnt face Bute, Dirrell, Degale. Kovalev has not had the Stevenson fight. So if Kovalev/Ward wins do you think defences will be made with other LHWs like Shabranskyy, Gvozdyk, Berbiev
I like and respect both fighters so can't wait. Just a point on your post I don't think you can try and qualify Ward's win over Froch; that was prime Froch in the ring that night and it's an excellent win for Ward. Bute, Dirrell and Degale are not in Ward's league. I think if Ward wins he will have his pick of the best but if Kov wins I think he will be avoided.
That wasnt prime Froch. That was a very jaded old Froch who was older than what many SMWs were when retired. Froch was possibly fatigued with having been on the road for 5 of his last 6 fights and facing every original S6 member one after the other. How do you know these fighters arent Wards league if Ward didnt fight them? Styles can make fights and at the time Bute was the biggest SMW match up to be made which Ward wasnt interested in. Back to Froch. Watch how he was when younger rather than the version who Ward beat who couldnt pull his arm up to defend himself like before due to wear and tear. Ward has fought some good fighters but has not fought boxer movers, so im not sure he will be looking to face boxer movers
Too add to what Bailey said, Dirrell was stylistically horrific for ard No wonder he pulled the "neva gonna fight ma friend" card
Froch had aged but i don't think he was jaded. Ward made him look past it but I think it was the most motivated Froch had ever been for a fight and his preparation would have reflected that. I don't think Froch really got worse until his heart wasn't in it anymore, i.e the Groves double.
Froch had been on the road for 5 of his previous 6 fights. Im sure that was jaded. Also Froch was past best, and in the build up Froch was saying he felt like an old man. I do think Ward against Froch was a close fight where there were many close rounds but that doesnt mean it was prime Froch
Why would I? Kovalev isnt a 35 year old SMW who is on a run like Froch was. With Froch some felt he was fortunate against Pascal, some felt he was behind against Taylor before he had a final minute KO, some felt he was fortunate against Dirrell, he lost to a faded unwell Kessler coming off a defeat, he had a clear win over a former MW coming off a loss in Abraham, then some felt he looked fortunate against faded, boiled down G Johnson and then he fought Ward and consider how much he was on the road as well
Ok, just asking. But everything you say about Froch being past it and jaded sounds excuses to me. Froch was 34 when he fought Ward, Kovalev is 33 now. Froch didn't look very good in his previous bout, neither did Kovalev. It was Froch's second fight of the year, It'll be Kovalev's third. I just hope we don't hear similar excuses this time.
lol at this bailey clown "that wasn't prime froch ward beat"....but I bet you were cool with golovkin chasing that beast froch right? lol
I didnt get the impression Golovkin was chasing Froch. The only interview I watched where Froch was mentioned to Golovkin, was Golovkin saying something like it could be a fight down the line if he went up to SMW and he hasnt moved up, so not sure what you are going on about really. Tell me, do you think a fighter who couldnt pull his arm up to defend like previously, having been in so many tough fights and at 35 was prime in the SMW division, not to mention possibly jaded from all of the travel. If you feel he was, good on you, it makes Froch pushing Ward so close look more impressive. Maybe it was a good move for Ward not to go to Nottingham
of course it was a good move by ward not to go to Nottingham...did u see what happened to dirrell there? lol....wards win was clear.....as was dirrells in Nottingham....ward would have never gotten a fair shake there froch was in fine shape for the ward fight...he just lost to the better fighter...even froch knows this
