Is Ward really that good of a fighter?
He beat some good names in the past, but nothing really in dominant in the manner he beat them
Kovalev destroys everyone. Including top level LHW

They wouldn't be wrong, Ward is a fighter coming up in weight. My problem is that those excuses would be preceeded by "Ward beats this robot easy" arguments from the same guys,

From everything I've seen from kovalev and ward, that fight turns out to be a total mismatch with Ward unable to do anything except hold on like his life depends on it.

I've giving ward the benefit of the massive doubt, that he's going to be much better not having to drain himself. If he's not a far better fighter no way will he beat barrera.

I'm holding out judgement until I see ward very barrera

And honestly, I think people mistakenly think Ward is some LHW Mayweather or something, IMO he's not and never was on that level.

if ward shows up 100% i see Kovalev winning 116-112 type of decision. If ward is only after money kovalev kos him inside 8.

The irony is that everyone seems to use this excuse depending on who they like/dislike. An example is:

Mayweather beating Hatton. Hatton called out Floyd came up in weight and was knocked out. Some people like to dis credit it because they dislike Mayweather.

If Golovkin ever fight Canelo and wins it will be because Canelo never fought a Middle weight before.

Manny fighting Rios, Bradley, and Algieri all comming up from 140 and it was considered okay, even though Manny has been at 147 since 2009.

See it changes depending on who the top guy is.:think

Fighting to achieve the approval of haters is idiotic because 99.99% of them are goal-post moving maggots who lack the gumption to change their opinion. This is true of all of them, not just those who'd rag on Kovalev.

I'm sure some would say those things, but that's not who boxers fight for.

"Goal post moving" yes this is key.
The thing is tho GGG gets waaaay more hate than Kovalev. As soon as Kovalev beat Hopkins and Pascal the Haterade cooled down. It appears that many boxing fans accept that Kovalev is the best LHW

:good It doesn't help that K2 has done a much better job of growing GGG's name value than Main Events has done with Kovalev.

On paper, Kovalev should be the more valuable fighter. Yet, he's still having to play the road warrior role. I'm sure that's where some of the resentment lies, even if the key parallel (both fighters having trouble landing their key rivals in their weight class) is the same.

Beating Hopkins as he did went a long way towards quieting down people on Kovalev, too. Outboxing him over the distance actually gave his boxing skills more credibility than if he'd blasted Hops out early IMO.

Froh and Kessler were names, but they were far away from being real elite level like Kovalev is. Kovalev would beat them both easily. He's smarter, punches harder, is more ruthless and just know how to box well. Outboxed Hopkins for 12 rounds easily.
And Abraham? Come on, he was never that good.

Kovalev will be the toughest fight for Ward and everyone here knows it. I have no doubts that Kovalev knocks him out.

I think it's not a big deal really. Fights with beterbiev or maybe a decent heavyweight would be a little more challenging.
Ward is too soft. I would be surprised if Kov just gets a decision and doesn't ko him.

If Ward had won the S6, had a couple weight adjustment fights at 175 then fought Kovalev and lost. Kovalev would of gotten alot more credit for the win even by some detrators. The truth is Ward has been inactive, feasting on no hopers ,and a drained Dawson since the Froch win. There is clearly a difference. Unless Ward comes back and shows he still got it against some top 5 fighters many people are going to complain it happens.
