It's not just Jake's chin that would have to hold up, but his body as well. Louis is the reason we do not talk about the chins of Godoy, Max Baer and Galento the same way we talk about LaMotta's beard. John Henry Lewis got through the first 110 fights of his career without being stopped. Joe needed less than two and a half minutes and three knockdowns to put him out to pasture. John Henry handled plenty of good heavyweights in his career. Jake never tried a heavyweight with a winning record, and largely confined himself to middleweight competition until near the end, even though he'd been a LHW amateur Diamond Belt Champion.

Jake could only have challenged Joe after Louis took apart Godoy in their rematch. The Bomber would have simply dusted off the Godoy II template, and taken LaMotta apart with it.

No way on earth that he'd last 15 rounds.

Louis would stoip him, his chin is probably the greatest but Luis would be murdering the **** out of it every round.

Billy Conn was a light heavyweight in 1940.He fought and beat Lesnevich,Bob Pastor, lee Savold, Gunnar Barlund,Buddy knox, etc...Billy conn went from 169-175 in the forties, was over 6ft.1"...
LaMotta at 5ft.8" fought at 160...No comparison in size...Billy fought as
a LH and the bullish Jake as a middleweight...
Conn had great footspeed, and had the speed to befuddle louis[for awhile]
while LaMotta would be cannon fodder for Joe Louis....

It would be like Louis-Uzcudun...one shot or a blur of a one-two and Jake on his back with some teeth missing.

billy weighed 169 for his 1st fight with the bomber.joe tortured himself to get below 200 so the weight disparagy didn't look too bad.lamotta is no billy conn when it comes to the boxing stakes anyway

Not in a stylistic match up like this ... No one, and I mean no one could take too many of the shots Louis was throwing back then ... look at how he destroyed a rock jawed Max Baer ... Jake would get hit and it would end fast ..
