Lets say Leapai shocks the world and knock's the f**k out of Wlad, by brutal right uppercut. Will it be more valued victory than what Buster Douglas did to Mike Tyson in 1990?
No, Tyson was undefeated and seen as undisputed back then. Wlad while great, his flaws are well known and Leapai is a puncher. Wlad is also in decline unlike Tyson who was in his physical prime back then. But in terms of an upset it may rank up there with Douglas/Tyson.
Yes, Tyson was damaged goods going into that fight (albeit mentally) and Douglas was coming back off wins against Berbick and McCall, so no mug himself. The gulf of class between Wlad and Leapai is far greater than Tyson and Douglas in terms of professional ranking.
If Leapai beat Wlad it would be a huge upset and be on the shortlist for all-time heavyweight upsets but not quite on the level as Douglas-Tyson. Leapai is an ok fighter who can punch. He's coming off a big win and has a few minor ones during his career as well so he's far from an all-time worse title challenger. Douglas was actually a pretty solid contender at the time, and a better challenger than Leapai. He had size, some skill, and had some nice wins to his credit-Page, Berbick, and a young McCall. He clearly should have been a huge underdog but 42-1 was probably a little out of whack considering what Douglas brought into the fight. The reason Tyson-Douglas would be a bigger upset is becuase of Tyson. He was right in his prime and was walking through good fighters in the past year or two like Bruno,Tubbs, and Spinks. Good fighters who Tyson simply ran over. Wlad is in the middle of a pretty dominant run himself and beaten some good fighters but he's 38 years old(by fight time), clearly not at his peak anymore, and has been upset 3 times in his career already.
That jab can't do it sorry...Wlad 1.0 poison is powerpunches, Wlad 2.0 is Steward Version, Wlad 3.0 is the physical strongest hug in boxing today. If Pulev had an 84" then I will put him as the greatest threat to Wlad/Wilder, thinking that the extra 4" don't matter is wishful thinking...Its all about that extra snap those last extra 4 inches make :smooch
Tyson was seen as undefeatable. Wlad is not. So, no, the upset wouldn't be quite as big. Still big though.
It would be nothing close to the Douglas vs Tyson upset, wich had a lot to do with the dominance of Tyson at that point, the fact that he had already been KO1'd by a previous Tyson victim and the 'zeitgeist' wich deemed Tyson unbeatable at the time. If that fight had taken place today, people would be all over Tyson/the WBC because Douglas was a 'glass jawed fraud' coming of a couple of decent wins and shouldn't share the same ring with the #1 HW. Only in a ridiculously weak era a guy like that would make it to #1 contender status. Mike should be ashamed of himself for fighting him and should just drop the belt and fight someone better instead. After this perspective, we'll see that Leapai has only a small punchers chance, but is in no way such an underdog as Douglas was.
Not even close. Most non Wlad nuthuggers know how bad Wlad's chin is. But lets face it Leapai is trash and Wlad will just clinch and hold and not risk getting hit. It will be a very boring fight that I will not be watching. I'm tired of watch Wlad cheat and the ref says nothing. Trust me Wlad will never face Wilder or Fury.
Wlad will KO him in the early rounds... Leapai is the WBO mandatory and Wlad has to face him unless he wants to be stripped of his title, of course the Klitschko haters detractors are never interested in the facts, so they ignore this and claim Wlad is ducking Pulev... Wlad will face Kubrat in the summer most likely, I can't wait!
it would be upset of the year no doubt on the other side Wlad is now 38 is champ since 2006 the Klitschko era comes to an end
