If legendary trainer Cus D'Amato didn’t pass away when Mike Tyson was only 18, would Mike have gone on to become the greatest heavyweight in history?

Their aim was to get to 50-0 and honestly I think he could have achieved that by around 1995 or so.

He would have had a 10 year career and had he maintained form he could have gone down as the GOAT in my opinion.

Tyson was always going to crash imo. Even with Cus at his side.
It would have been a miracle if he didn't. Tyson losing to Buster was waiting to happen. If hrd gotten past Douglas, someone else gets him not to far in the future.

Someone would have eventually stood up to him & got to him.

Cus would have kept him more disciplined & prolonged his prime more than 2 years.

I don't think little Mike had it in him to become the GOAT. Mentally wasn't the strongest. Gassed out late. Size issues against bigger men who could handle themselves albeit them men weren't around to deal with him.

Imagine what prime Fury would do to Mike? the press conferences would be hilarious.

    Maybe.
Tyson get pro fights where he looked very good via excellent matchmaking. Best his prime win was vs out of retirement rusty Holmes.
Ofc course he was very hardworking and physically gifted diligent lad with beautiful natural talent to fight. He even had very high level of patience, he was able to box and wait for mistake.
His style during some timeframe was to wait for some opponent's mistakes and then counter and follow with combo etc.
Mike was even capable to act as 1 st or 2 nd number during fight and had excellent legs and patience.

Then, looks that 1988 th, he laid off some his handlers and maybe had picked yes sir team.

If you compare Fury vs Tyson regards to mental strength it is laughable and not in Fury favor at all.
Fury had won ( not schooled like according to his fans claims in internet ) via decision vs lazy 39 y.o rich Wlad in Germany. Props for this and deep respect and still, Wlad looks that was too boring even for german market and judges in his prom to score him a win on cards.
Then after this he had huge bunch with belts and instead of doing next fight for far more huge purse, Fury had other priorities rather than boxing in the ring or in the gym. All world does knows this reality, I will not do laundry process here, full media about this beauty.

If Fury had mental discipline higher than Mike, he then had remained active fighter and there.
One fight vs Wlad for rematch vs even older version from old rich Wlad for very good purse. Next fight vs someone, I think, most likely for 8 digits purse in GBP. then next.

I will not wash Fury laundry here cos Fury likes me and still, he was not much more disciplined than Mike. Maybe even lesser disciplined after this fight.

I hope we might remain friendly and so on here, still do not judge and you will not be judged applies to every one.

Most likely he would have kept mike in check, if he told mike to get back to his house in the catskills to avoid trouble and stay there he would have.

Yep, agree with you and Mike loved Cus. Mike would not have gotten in anywhere near as much **** if Cus had been around longer.

Vitali looks that then already had been retired, vs Chisora he already had boxed almost like with 1 hand and was 40 y.o.
Imagine the same rematch Wlad vs Fury if Fury had been hard working and training during for example 6 months and vs even half year older than in first fight rich Wlad.
Wlad didn't looked " hungry " anymore even before fight vs then 33 y.o then undefeated Pulev. :(
In boxing you need to be " hungry ". Ofc I do know that long mileage in am and pro ranks under belt plus age, we call this as undisputed and absolute champion in the world for all athletes as Champion Father Time. Add to this if athlete is already rich.

Would not have mattered in the least. Tyson was going to go through the rebellious maturation stage with high levels of testosterone whether D'Amato was there or not. Simple human nature.

Jesus, Fury is nowhere near as skilled as Mike was, MT was an offensive monster throwing killer combo`s to body and head Fury fights nothing like that, he`s just a tall good spoiler who`s a sucker for right hands, no way could Cunningham have floored a prime Tyson, Fury`s punch technique sucks compared to Tyson all he has is speed and reach, Mike would have countered his sloppy jab all-night and he didn`t gas v Tucker.
