If Lemieux does the unthinkable....

    ....and somehow lands a Hail Mary shot that levels Golovkin for the count, what happens in the aftermath?

    Does Lemieux become the new budding PPV star in place of Golovkin, and does he become the A-side in a potential rematch?

    Would Golovkin deserve a rematch?

    Would Lemieux grant him one?


    (This is all, of course, extremely hypothetical, as most unbiased observers recognize this fight as the gross mismatch it is - but in boxing, anything could happen on a given night inside the squared circle).

    The rematch would be HUGE and if Lemmy beat him twice then yeah he would be the new 'monster'

    Personally, if Lemieux wins, unless there's a solid rematch clause in the contract, I doubt DLH would let him anywhere near Golovkin a second time, unless:

    A. He absolutely had to
    B. Lemieux destroyed Golovkin in a fashion similar to how Froch destroyed Bute

    Otherwise, it would seem wise to force GGG back to the bottom of the barrel.

    I am heavily, heavily picking Golovkin. Stoppage in the first third of the fight, specifically.

    But on paper, it wouldn't be some epic upset for the history books. Lemieux, however limited his skills are and shallow his experience is, still lands toward the top of Golovkins' list of opponents faced. Whenever that is the case and the favored fighter loses, well, they just lost to one of the best guys they faced. It would be a big deal because the hype on Golovkin right now is massive and Lemieux is limited and almost entirely unproven at the top level but with mere days of retrospect, pretty sure everyone would be dropped back to their senses no matter how big a fanboy.

    Remember when Douglas beat Tyson and rode a fame wave until Holyfield beat him in his very next fight. The same would happen to David if he won. People would say it was a lucky punch ala Marquez KO6 Pacquiao and David should rematch him.

    Make no mistake, I view this as a mismatch of the highest order, and fully expect GGG to stop Lemieux, in 3 or 4 rounds tops.

    1) David can punch very hard.

    2) The law of averages would dictate that Gennady is due to be stopped. I mean, he hasn't been dropped or stopped in 400 odd fights. That day has to come soon.

    I certainly don't expect anything like that to happen but we don't exactly know what Golovkin's chin can handle due to his lack of good competition so far. David looks to have poor balance and chicken legs. If he landed a surprise shot, I think it would be wise for him to milk his title in the same fashion Golovkin has. A rematch would be unwise unless he was offered a huge sum.
