Lewis cannot name his successor. Anyones success after Lewis' retirement is on them.

    This mess isn't Lewis'.

Lewis has the most credability when it comes to naming his successor. The president has been set with Jeffries, Lewis could of and can still clear this mess up by endorsing a fight of succession.

So what if Lewis says his successor is the winner of Maskaev-Peter? That fine by you?

Yep, if that is what he wants. It would be better than Jeffries! He named Jack Root and Marvin Hart to fight each other:scaredas:. It does not have be the two best fighters, boxing sadly very often does not work like that.

So then the recognized #1 HW in the world would be pushed aside, and you're in favor of that? Simply cuz the old retired champion thinks someone else should be his successor?

Yes; Jack Johnson was the #1 Heavyweight in 1905, but he did not get a shot.

If the #1 contender (I presume you mean Wlad) can get the public sympathy, the hypothetical champion would look at the financial reward of a such fight and decide weather he wants it... Public pressure may put the fight together anyway.

It hasn't yet. It was WRONG that Johnson didn't get a shot. Why would you want that to happen again?

Because we would have a Champion, an icon, again in boxings most important division, something we have been lacking for three years now.

Public opinion is that Wlad is the best HW. If Lewis declared someone else his successor, no one would care. They wouldn't change there opinion. An old retired champion cannot in this era, declare someone his successor and everyone go along with it.

I think he can. And although Wlad is probably considered the best fighter at Heavyweight, I suspect it is as the largest minority, thus as the last claimant, Lewis is the most credible source to declare a new champion in this era.

Lewis is not stupid, I suspect he would have Wlad as one of his choosen fighters...

Lennox Lewis was a great Champion and has nothing to proof. He is a very intelligent man and will stay retired and enjoy his life.
