How it goes is dependant on who is training him. he probably wouldn't of got with manny in 80s whilst steward was still heavily involved with kronk boys I think he gets the big fights with bowe and holyfield in early 1990s. rid**** wouldn't have mental scar of seoul 88. i fancy any lewis against bowe after 1992 fight with evander. i fancy evander only against pre steward lennox i see tyson fight happening 1989 1990. i see tyson of that period nailing the pepe carrera trained lewis. lewis under steward would be too much for that tyson. i fancy prime mike to beat any lewis
Your scenario is dependent on Lewis being moved very slowly. With the Olympics on his resume, I think Lewis would have been moved faster than the scenario you mapped out. With wins over, say DeWitt, Biggs and possibly Razor, Lewis could very well have been a top 10 contender during Tyson's reign. His management would have been hard pressed to avoid Tyson based on the big money they could get for a title shot.
Beating a shot Greg Page and taking 8 rounds to do so was hardly impressive. Phil Jackson sucked. Razor was still top ranked based on semi competitive fights with Tyson. Anyway, turning pro 4 yrs before he actually did means Lennox would have had to prove himself in the 1987-1989 time frame. A still A level Tyson, a better Razor and possibly an A level Tucker could have been very tough for him. Also, a motivated and prime Douglas and a very good Holyfield. He wouldn't have been able to coast until late 92 like he ended up doing.
Looking at Lewis's amateur resume, the great bulk of his international experience was after the '84 Olympics. They were smart to have him wait until after the 1988 Olympics to turn pro. He would have been very raw if he turned pro in '85 Record: 94-11 1980 Ontario Junior Championships: Lost a 2-3 decision to Donavon Ruddock in the middleweight class Super Heavyweight Gold Medalist for Canada at the 1983 Junior World Championships in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Lewis lost to Biggs in the 1984 Olympics before the medal round and he was 18 years old during those Olympics. He wouldn't have been moved quickly at all. He certainly wouldn't have been moved "quicker" if he was younger and had no medal. In the scenario I laid out, he's a top 10 contender by 1989 (four years after turning pro in 1985) and he fights Ruddock in 1990, Tyson in 1991 and Holyfield for the title in 1992. Tyson wasn't the champ after February 1990. I certainly don't see Tyson defending his title against Lewis. Tyson fought Bruno (who was his mandatory) and Carl Williams (who was his mandatory) in 1989. He also signed to fight Razor Ruddock that year, but pulled out. I don't know where Tyson would've defended his title against Lewis in your mind. After facing Spinks in 1988, he never faced anyone before Douglas except his two mandatories (Bruno and Williams). Lewis wouldn't have faced Tyson until after Tyson lost to Douglas. And the Tyson post-Douglas wasn't as good as the Tyson pre-Spinks. And Lewis in the early 90s threw a helluva lot more punches than the one who fought Tyson in 2002. I think Lewis beats Tyson anytime after Tyson lost to Douglas. Tyson in 1991 against Ruddock twice certainly wasn't unstoppable. And Lewis was a lot better than Ruddock.
If you want to paint a picture that Ruddock was "ruined" by Tyson, forget it. He wasn't. Ruddock was favored to beat Lewis because Ruddock was considered the best heavyweight in 1992 aside from Holyfield. Hell, they're all retired and he's still fighting and knocking guys out. He might be the Canadian heavyweight champion again by the end of this week. And Mike Tyson was NEVER fighting Lennox Lewis in 1987. Tyson was rushed to a title fight in less than two years. Nobody was going to rush Lennox Lewis to a title shot that quickly. Hell, he didn't even turn pro. If he had, you think they would've fast-tracked him? They didn't even think he was ready to turn pro ... Forget it.:hi:
I don't really have an opinion but why is it outrageous to think Ruddock was ruined by Tyson? Ruddock was overrated when he faced Lewis. A #2 ranking for taking two beatings and losing lop-sided fights to Tyson; beating a Greg Page who had recently been stopped by a 10-9 fighter; and beating a guy who'd never even fought any b-level opposition. And Lewis still hadn't really established himself as a big-time puncher. Ruddock did not look like an elite heavyweight in that fight, even before he got caught.
see its words that are messing us up,, "RUINED" , the word is a little harsh, Ruddock was negatively effected by his losses to Tyson, both physically and emotionally,,,
I don't use spell check, that is for ret ards like you with the language skills of a 5 year old,who can't spell. And just like most 5 year old's you have got a big mouth, so every time you make yourself look a kunt I like pointing it out. I'm glad you have kept out of the race debate because like boxing it goes way over your head. That's the thing with **** like you. All mouth and no brain, hence there is no one on this forum that could make you look smart. Like your idiot pal BullSChit 8 you are about as sharp as a marble. So run this cr ap by us again. According to you a Klitchko comfortably beats a re exile prime Ali, because they are much " bigger " but Valuev can't beat Tyson. No wonder most posters on here have you down as a cretin.
foxy, I don't think you would want a poll of what people on here think of you You are extremely insecure. You talk of your own intelligence in grandiose terms, while attacking the intelligence of anyone who finds fault with your arguments. Mature, secure adults do not do that. Of course, we are on a Boxing forum and it is not to be expected that everyone on here would be level headed.
Thats all fine and good but even Ruddock said he wasnt the same after the Tyson fights, Tyson gave him a beating in both fights..ruined that boy...**** that Tyson was too good for Lewis and even somewhat faded was still considered the best fighter in the world, Lewis either takes a beating like Ruddock and loses a lopsided decision or he taste the canvas in 6..Lewis wins after Tyson comes back from prison giving Tyson a sustained beating the whole 12 en route to a unanimous decision..just my opinion..
You don't know he wasn't already done by the loss to Jaco in 85 before Tyson got to him. He had never fought at world title level, and didn't after Lewis and Morrison unless you count the IBC bauble. But he still had another 17 fights after Tyson, losing only 2.
Work away. I don't care what people on here think of me. Most know less than nothing about what they post which is why I treat them with the contempt that I do. If anyone wants to challenge my knowledge on a subject I'll go with that. If they want to whinge about my attitude they can go and fukk themselves. Unlike some ( of which I include you ) I have no desire to be popular, I don't need it. I go out and perform music to audiences to get that kind of buzz. I suggest if you are taking a course in psychology ( though more than likely you are just one of millions of armchair psychologists ) you should ask for your money back, as I am far from insecure. I simply don't give a toss about most peoples fanboy based opinions. Typically like the one you wrote about Lewis being " rushed " into a fight with Tyson, when if you actually knew anything about Lewis you'd know he wouldn't be rushed into anything.
