If Liston had lived, when does he retire?

As of 1970, he was still boxing and in the rankings. In his last fight, he battered Chuck Wepner. But if Liston lives, when is his last hurrah? Does he retire on a high note or does he get battered by a Joe Frazier or even stopped by a Jerry Quarry and Liston decides to pack it in.

I'm guessing by January 1, 1980, Liston is no longer fighting.

 

I don’t think he was destined to ever step into a high profile fight again. This would eliminate meetings with guys like Frazier, Ellis and of course Ali who had already beaten him twice. He was basically black balled from the spot light. And losing badly to Leotis Martin didn’t help matters either. The general public was done with Sonny Liston. Assuming he continued after the Wepner fight ( which is a maybe ) he’d most likely pick up another eventual loss somewhere down the line against a journeyman or a fringe contender. Liston was looking pretty shot by 1970

 

He gets a crack at Frazier or Ali and retires after losing. Him being matched with Foreman for the NABF is a strong possibility but I think he is out of there by 1973 when Foreman beats Frazier.

 

He had lived the life of a wealthy-middle aged man, had started drinking a lot and preferred golf over boxing then.

Lost the focus completely, let alone his physical shape.

Maybe a cash-out fight against Frazier.

 

Not sure but don't think he hangs around long.
Only so much a guy can last.
He wasn't going to ever beat any of the top contender s by then, he probably fights a couple more years then fades into Bolivian..

 

Maybe as long as he needed money and they let him keep his license possibly.

I guess it depends how badly he needs the money.

He was only going downhill from here.

He had lost to Martin, and it was only a matter of time before he list to someone worse than Martin.

 

The public demands Ali/Liston 3.

 

He’s actually just signed to fight Chuvalo, who wasn’t quite as good as Martin but a lot better than someone like Wepner. I think Liston wins especially given how badly Chuvalo had declined by then.

 

He was smashed by Martin there isn’t anywhere to really go, I think after that the gravy train was probably close to over. Former champ or not I don’t think people would want to pay see him fight C listers for much longer without the illusion of a run at the tittle, of which Liston wasn’t capable of since Ali 2. Liston was just a spectacle after then, a chance to see a champ. I see him being said to be black listed “all over” he was black listed in New York and that’s it wasn’t he? He fought in Vegas for example.
