Ironically enough a recent P4P entry was Carl Frampton and he won his first belt against Kiko Martinez who was previously defeated by a bin man.
Of course not. But you stated Armstrong era was full of bin men, when the most high profile boxer I know who was a bin man whilst boxing is Rendall Munroe who is from this era.
Arguello wasn't the best lightweight in the world. Duran was. McGovern beat both Erne and Gans, as well as being champion at featherweight. McFarland beat the best of the featherweights at the time, as well as the best of the lightweights. I don't know if he counts due to not being champ, but I'm 100% certain he was the best fighter at both 126 & 135.
He can fight Manny Pacquiao, who is the WBA "Super" Champion, and is smaller than Linares, Campbell, Pedraza, Campbell, Teofemale, Bogere, Taylor, Prograis, Mikey, and Fortuna on fight night. Lomachenko is willing to fight Duckvonta Gayvis who was 146.6 in his last fight, which is a mere 1-2 pounds smaller than Pacquiao on fight night. Think about it — Lomachenko can actually become a welterweight champion.
Loma/Lopez winner will need to fight Haney to become undisputed no more than Fury/Joshua winner will need to fight Charr to accomplish the same feat. That said, don’t know about all time but (while Haney needs to fight a top10, quality LW to be considered a milestone opponent,) beating both Lopez and Haney would definetly make Loma one of the best of the last 20 years.
Pacquiao's a lightweight fighting at welterweight. What matters is fight night weight. If Clenelo and GGG rehydrated 1-2 pounds from 160, Pacquiao would fight them because the welterweights he's fought are around that size. And Pacquiao would be 42 and is shorter.
Mate, Arguello beat Jim Watt in 1981. Duran last fought as a LW in 1978. McGovern beat Erne but it was a catch weight fight. McGovern and Gans stood in a ring together but anything beyond that is meaningless. Would McGovern have beaten Erne for the belt had it been a full title fight at the LW limit, probably actually, I'll give you that one. As for McFarland, I've never heard of anyone ever claiming him to have been the best FW in the world. I have heard him classed the number 1 LW and WW, but never FW.
Oh my bad, got the dates mixed up for Arguello. Although I am right, in a way. He was only the best lightweight when Duran left. I've always thought McGovern vs Gans was on a level. I have Terry top 15-20 P4P actually. Yeah, McFarland beat a whole gauntlet of great featherweights man. Guys like Yanger and Moran were certainly two of the top five featherweights when Packey beat them.
Haha no you can't have that one I'm afraid. McGovern vs Erne has be swathed in controversy on message boards, but I haven't seen enough to convince me that isn't on the level, but fighting so far below the LW limit makes me question to worth of it as a LW bout. But the McGovern Gans fight is 100% certified off the level. Its so far away from the level that it should never really be brought up in terms of McGoverns resume. Did McFarland beat these guys as a FW though? I know I could just go and look back now but seen as you seem to have more McFarland knowledge off the top of your head I figured I'd just go with the flow. McGovern is gonna jump right up my rankings now though. Especially considering he was a natural BW. Original point still stands. Very few have been king of FW and LW. So Loma is in exalted company. But right now he's definitely more Garcia then Armstrong.
Loma is too small for 135 and too good for the same old crowd threatened by his greatness. If other boxers face him allowing him to unify 130 and 126, I think that's about all he can do.
