If Lucian Bute is not the IBF Champ, then neither was Lacy and neither was Joe!

I'm not disputing that Paulie but it seems pointless continually going over the same thing.

I think that once Joe retires, Bute will be the master of his own destiny; he will have the opportunity to become Champ if he beats Kessler, and nothing but his own limitations should be able to stop him.

Reason why I dragged this sorry-ass thread up from the depths is because it's a quiet time, there's a lot of talk about Bute, and because some people make some very strange statements about the holder of the IBF title. Apologies to those not enemies of logic and common sense.

Did you bump this because you think people's opinions have changed on this matter? Bute still hasn't made a title defense yet and his next opponent is William Joppy.

I respect Bute.. really do.. good young fighter. He is the IBF-title holder. But I refuse to call a fighter a CHAMPION until he beats a true champion, or like Blocky said, at the very least make some legit title defenses.

With William Joppy as his next opponent, you can almost say that it's justifiable to call Bute a paper champ.. because he's making crap defenses! He should be facing some of the real contenders at 168..

This thread was less about semantics and more about logic. Anyway, have it your way. Not happy with Joppy as an opponent at all, myself, either. Cannot think of anyone substantially better though.

"He should be facing some of the real contenders at 168"...like...whom?

It's not a difficult concept to understand so stop patronising people. We all know Bute is the IBF beltist okay?

If you start a poll and ask people who the "real IBF Champ at 168 was", I bet you at least a quarter will say: JC.;)

Stop patronising me by telling me what to do.;) (yeah, I realise the self-reflective irony of that comment)

:good You know i respect you're enthusiasm, character, and knowledge. There's no need to apologize, there's many an irrational critic talking through their anus, and it can be frustrating at times.

UnfortunatelY? I'm not a Bute fan. I dont DISLIKE him as a person, I just dont believe he's ready to take the reigns at this point. I almost feel bad admitting that, because i know he's you're guy. If he ever does become Champ? I'll be happy for you, at least. I'll say this he has potential and with continued hard work? He may achieve that goal.

There's a lot of good fighters at 168. But a decent American name would've been good for Bute at this point in his career. Bute could've asked for a fight with Lacy. That would instantly up his reputation and that's a very winnable fight for him. Allan Green would be another W for Bute. Joppy is a joke

So if you know it? What the hell are you yapping about? There's no patronising going on here, Decebal has earned the respect of many. Nothing wrong with POSTERS NOT TALKING **** and respecting one another's thoughts/opinion's.

Look, I accept Bute is the IBF titlist at a push I'd call him the IBF "champ". As far as I'm concerned Joe is the World SMW Champion no matter what any alphabet says.

We're never going to get a man holding onto all four belts. It's just too hard & I really dont see the benefit of continually discussing who's picked up who's discards. Bute's no more the champ at 168 than Abraham or Sturm at 160.

Haha...you are too kind; unjustly so! I know **** all about boxing, but logic is not my weakest point. Anyway...

...you are of course right to think Bute is not ready to be the man at 168. And here's the thing! It's not just my opinion; it's HIS opinion! (Doesn't that make you at least respect him?:hey ) He said himself after the JC-MK fight he had a long way to go before he could compete [not "beat", but "compete"!] with the likes of Joe and Mikkel. So, we can all agree at least that he is not:

    1. delusional
    2. stupid
    3. insincere

...a good start; good ground to start building on.

I always said that the most important qualities that he has are moral qualities/character. Yeah, he happens to be a nice guy, humble, generous and kind and have a decent personality - well, quite a few guys in boxing do - so let's not make too much of that. Yeah, he is quite a decent boxer, but he'll never be elite or even borderline elite. Still, if he is character and morale are as I suspect they are, he will overcome some of those insufficiencies and do quite well. We'll see. :D

It's a shame you haven't been here for longer because you would know how highly I think and speak of Joe!:yep

I wouldn't argue with any of that. It just seemed a tad odd to drag up an old thread about something people knwo the answer to.

You're selling yourself SHORT:yep It was an opinion shared by quite a few of the more "knowledable" posters that you were the most improved poster on this board. So unless it all goes in one ear and out the other?:nono I'd say you know more than **** ALL:yep Perhaps, you feel a ways to go and that's the same kind of attitude reflected in you're points about Bute's thoughts.

It's that type of thinking and attitude which earns respect and shows character. Yes, i respect that about Bute and yourself.:good

Allan Green unfortunately couldn't take the fight. He declined InterBox's offer mainly because the fight was not televised in the USA, it seems. InterBox couldn't compensate him sufficiently for lack of US TV either, so he said NO to the chance to fight for the IBF strap in February.

Bute could have asked for a fight with Lacy. But would Lacy have fought for $100,000 and not have the fight televised in the USA? (Would he have said YES to the deal Green said NO to?)

Alright, so let's talk about why the deal was so poor...well, InterBox don't have that much money. However, I don't see why they couldn't convince US TV to televise the fight. Apparently, the slots for that evening were all booked for baskeball or something. So why couldn't InterBox find another night, when the US TV Networks had a free slot? :think I don't know. I am not happy with Joppy, but couldn't accuse InterBox of not having tried to find the best American they could have...I just don't have the evidence to do that, yet.
