If Maidana can do it...

I saw hints of a duck in the last interview with Floyd where he was being interviewed by Jim Gray prior to the Santa Cruz vs Frampton fight. When Jim Gray asked Floyd what weight the Mcgregor fight would be it, with a leading question about spotting Mcgregor all the way up to 170, Mayweather hesitated and said 150.

You see, Mayweather is one of the greatest boxers of all time, but he honestly just doesn't have the type of power to go up to middleweight for example and fight guys like Duran did. I just don't see Mayweather standing up to Hagler for more than a couple of rounds at best.

You can't underestimate Mcgregor who is definitely more athletic than Maidana. I would also say that Mcgregor has heart because he competes at the top of an insane sport where one fight could potentially injure you for life. Boxing of course is no different, but like in all sports, its very rare to find an athlete at the very top of his sport lacking in fortitude.

One thing I've noticed about Mcgregor is that he has impeccable timing. While obviously MMA participants may not be used to the precision of boxing, but many of Mcgregor's KOs have been timing shots. For example, his fight with Aldo and whomever he fought last were great examples of anticipation.

It's very hard to teach anticipation.

What does Maidana bring that Mcgregor doesn't? Years of experience of seeing other top level boxers, including a wannabe clone in Broner. However, while Maidana does have reasonable defense for his crude style, his punches are wide, and he relies heavily on his strength.

If anyone remembers, Alexander, apparently much stronger than Maidana, manhandled him like nothing, taking away all of Maidana's effectiveness. In contrast, Mathesse, arguably stronger than Maidana, had boxing skills to rely on and managed to perhaps win the fight in the eyes of many observers.

It is possible, and perhaps probable that Mcgregor is more skilled at boxing than Maidana. Additionally, Mcgregor has a 2 inch reach advantage over Mayweather and may decide to fight in such a way where he stays long and keeps Mayweather at a distance.

Mcgregor tends to fight out of the southpaw stance, which he does best. He knows how to fight tall, which is going to make things increasingly difficult for Mayweather if his opponent does not want to engage.

Lara has made a career out of this style of fighting. I think Lara is a fighter that would give Mayweather all sorts of problems because Lara also has a 74 inch reach and is a nightmare for shorter conventional fighters because he is so great at controlling distance.

Like Lara, what makes Mcgregor great at UFC, which is a sport where people can come at you in multiple ways, is his use of distance and timing, just like Lara.

Worse, if Mayweather spots Mcgregor all the way up to 170, it means Mcgregor will not be drained. I think this might be the reason for the stutter.

Now, I'll be the first to say that I've said others would have a better chance to beat Mayweather than they actually did, so it would not surprise me if Mayweather performed a master class. However, you must at least acknowledge the pressure because this will not be an easy fight.

Mcgregor is a real fighter and he's got power. Still though, I'd rather see a Pacquaio fight for Pacquaio's final fight if it must happen.

The Mayweather vs Mcgregor fight is honestly terrible for boxing because if somehow Mcgregor manages to knock Mayweather out, don't people realize the ramifications to the sport's reputation?

    It's a bad look.

Plus that Mcgregor guy might not be trustworthy. If Floyd gets knocked out with a kick, he still gets knocked out. People will youtube that for decades, if youtube still exists. At one point, they will probably watch it through virtual reality. I'm sure there will be a stipulation in the contract for that, but given Mcgregor's outside on-camera behavior, assuming that's how he really acts, would it surprise you if he kicked Mayweather during the fight?

McGregor would get chopped up. When Mc G sparred a real boxer, he was getting handled. His hands are great for mma, but his technique isn't on par for Boxing. He can improve if he chose to dedicate himself to boxing but to go directly into a fight with Floyd right now.. He has no chance in hell.

You don't think Mcgregor might just say, "**** it," and just hit Mayweather with a kick?

To be honest, I've never seen Mcgregor fight in a boxing match, so I could be way off, but I just assumed that he could also fight with that wrestling on the inside, but I'm not sure how good his inside punching game is. If he can deploy punches and take some shots, using his strength to his advantage, he could potentially get to Floyd.

This is if Floyd actually spots this dude 20-30 lbs because at the end of the day, you can't really discredit Mcgregor because he is a champ in the UFC. I wouldn't fight in the UFC. The hell with that. It just seems your body gets wrecked in the UFC. It's just not worth it.

Regardless, my point is, it's still fighting and you still have the chance of getting knocked out, so it's not like Mcgregor is some punk off the street. Maybe he knows something we don't. Maybe he sparred Maidana.

Maybe, but I don't know. Something about Floyd's behavior told me otherwise, but maybe he just has really bad social anxiety.

Honestly, it never even occurred to me until I seen Floyd appear to duck by putting in a 150 weight clause, which would surely leave Mcgregor as a skeleton.

He's too damn wide with his punches, and he's kind of slow and telegraphs his punches as well. Floyd would make him look silly.

Probably so, but it could still be a dangerous fight if Mayweather underestimates this guy. I don't think it's a good idea either way.

Think about it like this. Did James Toney fight a UFC middleweight?

That's kind of what this fight is equivalent to.

Toney went into their world and couture showed him how different MMA is and took him down and pounder him out. Mcgregor would have the advantages in MMA, but in Boxing? He'll nah..
