While it will be one of the most shocking moments in the sport's history, it won't be bigger and more shocking than Tyson vs Douglas. Remember that Maidana showed he belongs there and gave Mayweather hell in the first fight so being competitive won't be shocking or new like it was in the first fight.

There was a reason why Tyson/Douglas was held in Tokyo.

Because nobody wanted to see the damn fight!

Tyson underestimated Douglas, whereas Maidana and Floyd have fought before, so if Maidana does pull it off, it wont be as unexpected.

How can you compare the two, floyds 38 lol.. tyson was champ and still in his prime.. it wouldn't even be close. In reality with media these days etc.. it'd probably be made out to be bigger. In boxing terms i just don't think it'd be even close..

Even in the media it wouldn't be close.

Tyson was a much bigger cross over star, probably the biggest ever.

pretty much, yeah. Floyd is considered the best P4P, so a loss to Maidana will be a huge upset.

Well partially, the Japanese were desperate for another Tyson performance because Tyson was huge in Japan.

But the other and main reason is financial, nobody could afford another Tyson fight so they took it abroad.

Remember Tyson got $25 million for 91 seconds of work against Spinks and that was nearly 30 years ago

i wasnt into boxing when DOuglas won but based on the fact that he was like a 50-1 underdog and that Mike Tyson was in his prime compared to the fact that Mayweather already had a tough fight with Maidana, is past his prime close to 40 and Maidana even before the first fight was a top 10 WW it wouldnt be any where close to what people experienced when Mike lost

Douglas WAS a top ten heavyweight, people sometimes dismiss Douglas as some bum, which he wasnt.

Its just Tyson was so huge, in front of him, everyone was a bum.

Douglas was on a good run before facing Tyson. He had wins over Berbick, Mcall and the controversial loss to Tony Tucker and some other wins as well
