I think what gets lost in the translation is Maskeav has transformed his style. He is now a technical fighter on offense or defense not prone to making mistakes. And his confidence ( which is very important to a fighter ) is back. His power remains. It is plausible that Maskeav was at his best recently. Rahman landed a few hard shots on Maskeav, and Maskeav was able to take a few of them. It remains to be seen if the layoff and injury has dulled Maskeav.

I tend to believe Peter will win the fight. Peter despite looking shaky vs McCline for a few rounds, has great power, great durability, good heart, and a decent jab. I think he’ll eventually break though Maskeav’s defenses and score a TKO. The big question on this fight is Peter weight. Peter was at his best weight vs Wlad at 243. If Peter comes into the fight in the mid 240’s, I think he wins. If Peter enters the ring in the high 250’s to low 260’s, Maskeav has a real chance to pull off an upset.

If Maskaev defeats Peter in any way, it will confirm my belief that a. Maskaev is an underrated overachiever if there ever was one, and b. Sam Peter is one of the most OVERRATED fighters in recent years, and a most 1-dimensional one at that, even notwithstanding his points defeat of James Toney and his rabbit-punch knockdowns of Wlad Klitschko. That much said, I predict that Peter will impose himself on an aging, inactive Maskaev and dominate him, and should win by a stoppage in 6 or less. If Peter, on the other hand, should face Wlad in a rematch, look for Wlad to greatly improve on his last showing, stopping Peter late in the bout for a legitimate ko.

My thoughts exactly. Even if Peter wins a decision, his stock goes down instead of up.
