His accomplishments are amazing, especially originally being from a much lighter weight division. If it was anyone else from the same divisions beating everyone left and right whether the opponents they beat were in their prime or not it would be a big deal. At the pace Pac is doing it it's unbelievable.

I think he's simply too good to retire he's only 30, but it's obvious he also wants to go out on top as a champion. If he can beat both Floyd and then Sugar Shane and then beat Yuri Foreman at 154 no one, absolutely no one can question his greatness. I know it's probably asking for too much, but if he's already this high on top of the world, he's gonna have to come down at some point, as will Floyd. Sure, he can retire after Floyd, but let's not forget the man at top of the welterweight division is Sugar Shane Mosley, not either of the p4p kings Manny or Floyd. ITS SHANE! And unfortunately for Manny, that is a rival he cannot ignore. Or forever live with the guilt of ducking him.

Manny's already a future hall of famer, but he has the chance to be up there with the Durans and Leonards if he beats Floyd, Shane, and a decent 154lb belt holder.

As crazy as it may sound, I think running for office is more important to him at this point in his life not career. The fact that he would rather box around the upcoming campaign is evidence of his change.

for manny its his political career first then boxing, so if he does beat floyd he will most def retire any more fights and he could harm his record and the way manny fights he relies highly on his reflex's so a out of prime manny would be terrible

He already is up there with the Leonards and Durans. If he beats FMJ he will be in the top ten best of all time. Floyd has more to prove because hes the one who has been ducking people.

i see what you mean, but you're contradicting yourself. so if manny beats floyd, he's the #1 welterweight or vice versa? :verysad i think you're getting #1 p4p and #1 welterweight confused. floyd vs. manny i agree is for the p4p title and of course, the wbo. shane is not #1 p4p. but floyd never took on margo and if floyd thought he was another baldomir then why didn't he ever fight him then? anyways, facts are, shane beat margo, who believe or not, was the man at 147. as of today, it's sugar shane. their isn't no way around it bud. berto has a great chance to take advantage of shane's aging, but he went to hell with collazo and mosley walked right thru the guy. it will be close, they have similiar styles, i think berto might even be alil faster, but shane's footwork and power will back up berto. hell he was able back up a bigger margarito, he's gonna back up berto and probably win on a decision or tko. Shane's body attack is ridiculous and slows berto down even if berto does beat him to the punch, berto is nothing mosley can't handle. berto is young and easily get lured into a brawl to show his bravery and skills and that will be his downfall.

I agree. He should retire but I don't think he will. I hope I'm wrong tho. Anyway, you said that MP should retire and come back if another superstar comes out. What good is the word retirement if he's going to do that?

I would say shane is number one at welterweight because he beat the recognized welterweight champ. that's generally how it works.

not to mention he didn't just beat the champ. he destroyed the guy who was supposed to be "undestructable"

Many times, a retirement or inactivity is needed for another superstar to establish themselves because someone will inevitably step into the vacant limelight. Examples: Ali and Frazier, Dempsey and Tunney, Tyson and Holyfield, and now, Mayweather and Pac. This phenomenon usually happens within the same weight class because when the champ leaves, someone else can get acknowledged as "the man", or at least "the man in waiting". In this case, it's the P4P spot that Manny took from Mayweather.

Without the great fighter leaving in the first place, not as much buzz gets generated because that accomplishment can't be had by the other fighter. If Ali never leaves, Frazier's not a touted unbeaten champion with multiple defenses, but "just" a top contender. Pac stepping aside would allow the next guy to get Pac's P4P spot and titles just in case he comes back.
