...gets a fight with De la Hoya, what could be the ramifications? If Oscar wins easy, big deal. He's the bigger guy. If the fight is dificult does it hurt Oscar more than it helps Manny, or vice versa? If Manny wins, is he an immortal and Oscar forever moved to the "good" pile? This fight appears close to being made, and it is not a sure thing for the Golden Boy. Oscar's jab, and size are more than enough to make him the favorite. Still; a fighter as tough as Pacquiao, with that speed and workrate, could pose a bit of a threat. Personally, I'd like to see Oscar fight the winner of Cotto/Margarito. Or even Winky Wright. Wright and Forrest are the only top fighters left from his era he's yet to face.
If DLH doesn't win, then he's totally shot. There is not way that a fighter like Pac could beat a fighter like DLH except for a lucky punch. If DLH fights at a weight (whatever that might be) that he is comfortable with, then I don't see why he can't beat Pac. Pac is more of a fighter than a boxer, but he is not really a pressure fighter, so I don't see how he can beat DLH. Actually Pac's style is tailor made for Oscar. If DLH were in his prime nobody would be talking about this fight, and his corner and promoter would be looking for somebody else to fight Pac instead. Now, to answer your question, the outcome of this fight won't hurt neither DLH's nor Pac's career. This will be a kind of an entertainment fight for money purposes only. DLH had this type of fight already when he fought BH, the difference was that BH had a title and in this case they will fight just for the (money) hell of it.
I disagree with this. De la Hoya faced someone that has a style to be his foil, got hit a lot in return, and still managed to win most every round against his last opponent. De la Hoya may not ever be as good as he was against Trinidad, but he is no Chavez as he was versus Tszyu either. If Pacquiao were to pull off a major upset, his accolades would be much deserved.
