Even if we take out the 150 catchweight fight w/ Margarito for a vacant belt, that's still 7 weight classes climbed... I hear a lot of haters knocking the 8 weight classes and saying that what Manny Pacquiao did wasn't all that impressive, so can we expect 2-3 fighters to climb 7 weight classes in the next 10 years?

It's very impressive although he didn't necessarily fight the best in each weight class that he went through.

Basically, Pac's this generation's answer to Jimmy McLarnin. That's quite a compliment. As cslb said, he missed fighting the best in a couple of divisions (namely jr middleweight and lightweight), but going lineal in five is pretty damned impressive, even in this era.

He beat the lineal champ at flyweight, beat ledwaba who was considered by many to be one of the top 122. Beat Barrera at 126 and drew with jmm. Beat morales who had just beaten him. 135 ok Diaz was nobody. At 140 he beat the lineal champ Hatton who was undefeated at that weight. And at 147 he beat Bradley and cotto.

All the other champs he beats are icing but that's pretty damm impressive to me. The weakest opponents was probably in 135 and 122, but 122 is only in hindsight as he bulldozed everyone at that weight.

Wasn't a great field at 122, and he drew in his one attempt to unify at that weight. But he also wasn't the finished product at that point, and the lineal champ at super bantam (Paulie Ayala) didn't seem at that keen to face Pac even at that stage of his career.

    Still, pretty impressive stuff.

Some on here say five but whatever it is, it is still impressive although I would submit that Hatton, coming off of being ko'd by Mayweather, was hardly at his best and that certainly wasn't a prime Cotto he fought at the catchweight of 145.

the only fault i can see is 135 which is diaz but on the other hand what you gonna do fight at 135 or move up to fight oscar?
i would pick the latter all day long.

    115-sasakul in thailand
122-lehlo in 2 weeks noticed(first time in america)
    126- barrera and marquez
    130-morales,velazquez,morales,larios,morales,solis,barrera,marquez
    135- diaz
    147- oscar
140- hatton(hatton was never so good at 147,collazo tap that ass)
147-cotto(drained even cotto doesnt agree with those people who were saying he was drained)clottey, mosley(old),marquez, bradley, marquez, rios, bradley, algieri, floyd, bradley, vargas
150-ok whatever but doesnt change the fact that margarito is 15lbs heavier than pac.
