After the first three of these, they are going to be forcing Walcott out at gun point or holding members of his family hostage in the crowd. By the fifth fight, he'll probably drop to his knees as the bell rings...screaming "PLEASE, NO MORE! Kill me, just leave my family alone!"
Reminds me of the story of the orchestral viola player who returned home after a brief trip to find his house burned down, his wife and children hung from a tree, and a sign staked in his front yard reading 'TOMORROW I WILL BE BACK FOR YOU' As the violist looked on in shock, his neighbor ran over, shouting "Your conductor, HE did this!" The violist, a look of wonder on his face, replied in a hushed and trembling voice, 'You mean ...... Maestro was here ..... to see me?'
I agree. if they fought nine times after their first fight Marciano might sweep him, absolutely toasted him.
As long as Walcott knows what happened in the first fight, he will never fight for the win, just like he didn't in the second fight.
A J Leibling was there he said, Walcott decided to sit it out. SRR was there, he said Walcott not only let his people down ,he sat on them. Marciano said," I think he could have gotten up,I know I would have." Walcott made no protest when he first arose it was only after the crowd began to boo that he began his theatrics.
So because he didn't fancy getting up he threw the fight?? He was knocked down heavily and was in trouble? Did Tyson throw his fight against Lewis because he could have got up?
If you decide to sit it out because you don't fancy it . YES you are throwing the fight. Tyson got the sh*t beaten out of him. No comparison.
And how do you know how he was feeling? His senses were likely all over the place, tends to happen when you've just been hit with a peach of an uppercut...
I know the Tyson an*logy is ridiculous. Tyson got a steady beating from a giant, he ate huge uppercuts, right crosses and had his eyes cut and shut with jabs ,yet he was coming forward for the 8rds and still trying to the end,he went out on his shield. The consensus of ringside opinion was that Walcott quit cold.
Tyson could have gotten up from the shot that put him down, he decided not to because he knew he was in for some more punishment. Did the majority of those at ringside feel he quit cold or was it just a chosen few? I think it's pretty clear to see with your own eyes that Walcott was dropped heavily and was in trouble.
Walcott doesn't get anywhere near the credit he deserves - or the kind of credit his own peers afforded him At least. He played games with Joe Louis, one of ths the greatest of all champions and i don't care what anyone says if you're leaving the ring with your head down before the decision is announced then you don't think youve won the fight. Wally also knocked Ezz Charles sparko with one shot - nobody did that ever. He also broke his 25 fight win streak - charles had only lost once in about his last 45 fight and then Walcott not only KOs him one shot but beats him back to back again something no one had done to him? He was making Louid look a fool in the rematch before Loyis hit him with everything in the book to keep him down just and he put on a masterclass in that first Marciano fight and it took the greatest punch ever to beat him - i think Walcott had a very good chin and also massively under rated power he took numerous hellacious shots from Marciano that fight was a war and he also held his own punch for.punch with one of the best hitters ever aswell - Curtis Sheppard mentioned him amongst the best punchers of the era and when in the kind of mood he was for that first Marciano fight its gunna take an ATG performance to beat him - fair enough he was starting to coast when he got caught but he was absolutely fine 10 seconds before - that was a one in a million shot that put his lights out and 9 times out of ten he comes down the stretch to win - who knows what wouldve happened but this is as far from a foregone conclusion as you can get IMO
memory is a very damaging thing when you are brutally KO'd, we have seen it in Big John Tate, Roy Jones and others and in fight 2 it was Walcott not Marciano who went down in the first and Walcott was hurt but at the count of 9 may have thought of the 13 rds of pain that was administered in fight 1 by this relentless, late power, stamina filled little badger in front of him and said "enough"
