If these ATGs ate loads of pies the result that they put on 100lbs each, therefore there -

    1. punch speed fell off dramatically
    2. stamina was reduced to lasting less than 6 rounds like 6 round sam peter
3 punch rate fell horribly low, to below tyson/wlad
4 they had to shuffle half crippled by their weight round the ring

-would they still have made fring contention in the 20s and 30s, or would they have been circled till they were exhausted and then ktfo.

    100 lbs is too much.

Dempsey and Louis could maybe get away with 40-60 lbs at the very most, they could still have been fringe contenders in their era.

    Marciano would be ****ed.

With 30-40 lbs of fat, his flexibility would all be gone and so would his defence.
That combined with his reduced punch output would have made him bum.

He doesn't have Louis' boxing skills, and Dempsey looks like he has more room for fat (since he's bigger than Rocky)

Why would they consider putting on 100lb of blubber? Functional excess weight was not really achievable in the way it is presented today. Those guys cut a lot if weight training the way it was understood fighters should train for those times. If you trained in the way a serious professional boxer did back then you ended up looking like the fighters did back then. 100 pounds of extra blubber is kind of difficult to imagine.

If they trained like wrestlers did in their day rather than the way fighters did they might have looked closer to the way fighters look now but that would only be cosmetic. They could not function as well as fighters do now because the muscles developed would be pulling and lifting rather than in a sport specific way.

Is the question aimed at the kind of training required in order to be successful in the times of Louis, Rocky and Jack?

Marciano, Dempsey and Louis were top ten ATG heavyweight champions and out of shape they simply become great fighters out of shape. Their knowhow, heart, durability, ability to adapt, punch hard and hungry desire would remain intact.

There is film of out of shape Joe Louis sparring out there and there is the awful computer fight film out there too. Great fighters don't forget how to fight if they are overweight. They just have to adapt to the situation.

Tony Galento knocked out a lot of fighters and was always over weight. He proved to be a relevant contender with a wrestling physique back when boxer's looked like Jack Dempsey. Why not Dempsey, Louis and Rocky?

In the future Lional Butler remained dangerous and David Tua. George Foreman was relevent being both old and over weight so there must be scope for other great fighters to make an impression out of shape.

I see you're still flogging that horse, the size of a Lennox Lewis or a Tyson Fury would still be of the same advantage 70 years ago as it nowadays....

Perhaps they feel like they just want a big mac too many and become a bit fatter than they were.

Tyson Fury and Lennox Lewis would not look like Tyson Fury or Lennox Lewis 70 years ago.

They would look like Chuck Gardner and Ernie Terrell. And fare as well as those guys did 40-50 years ago.

I just dont see it. I mean those guys were focussed and determined athletes.

I can see it only in a hypothetical way rather than as something that could logically happen.

    It sure is.

if, upon the day before a big fight Dempsey, Rocky and Louis were each secretly injected with 100 pounds of unwanted blubber from some monstrous liposuction patient as they slept... I'm sure they would be pretty angry about it! ...Hypothetically angry.

I wonder if Charlize Theron could carry 100 pounds of blubber and still be considerably-above-average-attractive.

I think Beyonce's body could hold it quite well. Her face might suffer badly.

Hmm. And yet she could retain some talent..

I think she would also be pretty angry though. Haha
