Don`t here any complaints here that Rocky Marciano beat a 38 year old Joe Walcott,a 33 year old Ezzard Charles and a 39 year old Archie Moore!!

Accept it America - Joe is a legend!:happy

    I agree.

One more thing: it's more difficult to go 46-0 in 2008 than to go 49-0 in 1956. Boxers had approx. 70 fights iin the fifties.

But Marciano did not reign over a newly created weight class with an obscure title.

He was the ACTUAL Heavyweight champ.

But I agree Joe is great... not because of 49-0 though.

Depths of talent in any weight class fluctuate. The fact that the SM division was relatively new didn`t mean there was a dearth of talent there.

Joe is an excellent fighter with some fairly good accomplishments. But to compare him to Marciano is just plain ignorant.

I've been saying something similair about Calzaghe and Lopez. I don't think that he is in the class of these two, but it's a fair point. However. Lopez and Marciano both fought the best available to them. Let's say that it is NOT Calzaghe's fault that this happened.

He still wasn't tested against the best available like Rocky and Ricardo.

Calzaghe didn't fight in the best time at 168. Name the other fighters at 168 during 1998 til now that can be considered close to great.

Kessler, Lacy and Hopkins were the best available, and he beat a host top top contenders...

I think myth fits better. Just like the myth of the 10-second unbeatable prime Mike Tyson.

Joe is a very good fighter. Lock for the HoF, an atg and the best at his weight but he clearly lacks the resume and accomplishmtents to be compared with someone like Marciano.
