Louis was popular with whites in the 1930's. McVey doesn't have a clue.

It's probably fair to say that McVey has forgotten more about boxing than you'll ever know, and your observation that Joe Louis was popular with whites in America in the 30's is proof of this. No black guys were popular among whites in 30's America, particularly athletes. They were simply used as tools of propaganda against the Nazi's, in much the same way the Nazis's tried to use German athletes to " reinforce " the belief in the superiority of the Aryan race.

Oh, and you do realise that Louis is without doubt McVey all time favourite Heavy, or a very close second don't you?

Which is exactly why any Heavyweight from Frazier onward's would get unmerciful stick for beating up those guys at the age, and ability they still possessed when Marciano beat them.

I can't think of any black Heavyweight champion in the last 40 years that would be screaming from the roof tops. " Hey I beat up 39 year old Walcott, 39 year old Light Heavy Moore, 38 year old, 2 years retired Joe Louis, and the Light Heavy Charles to attain my greatness. "

Next to Ali I think L L is the most dangerous head to head for all the others.

Actually, off the American census for their ages, none of these men are as old as the current champion.

I assume you cleaned up at the betting window by putting your life savings down on Bryant Jennings against the aged Wlad? as well as betting on Vitali against the aged Lewis?

As for light-heavyweights, Charles hadn't fought at that weight for at least six years and actually outweighed Marciano in their second fight. Moore was within a pound of him.

It is certainly a valid point that top heavyweights are much bigger these days, but Marciano wasn't all that big either.

As for Louis being retired for two years, folks at the time viewed his having nine fights in the previous thirteen months as showing he wasn't retired.

I think if he was black, he'd also be tall and slender, with long arms, and also he'd probably be female. Yes, he'd be virtually Diana Ross.

Whether Rocky would go with the beehive or the Afro, I can't say.
But he already demonstrated he had no aversion of wigs, as a stocky white Italian male, so he'd be okay with it.

    But seriously.
A black man with a suitcase full of vibrators catching flights all over the US in the 1960s.
I think J.Edgar Hoover would have had him shot.

I give him a 30% chance of beating the pre exile version, but I think the percentages reverse for the post exile version.

They were all active guys, Charles was a year old than Marciano, guys today wish they were as fit as Walcott or had his physique. Moore won all but 2 of his last 50 fights with DQ and a controversial SD loss that he avenged and they all beat younger bigger Black heavyweights. These days we have heavyweights in their 40's the current dominant champ is 39 only Jennings is 30 (and he was dominated by Vlad) and Wilder, Fury under 30....I know it bothers people so they pick hairs about Marciano-fact is he beat the very best of his time and got out of boxing with no one on the horizon

If Frazier was in his place he would be considered Great but I dont think he could fit Walcott and Charles multiple times without a loss, one reason being he declined quicker than Marciano, he was stunned by Stander and Daniels and Bob Foster and he only had a total of 26 fight under his belt for the FOTC and his record including the 2 wins over Daniels and Stander was 5-4-1 post FOTC

I think it is a fact that Marciano's skin color is held against him by many. There are some on this board that would rate him # 1 if he was black-fact

I've told you before. All you and the other Rocky fans are doing by posting how well Moore, and Charles did in the Heavyweight division BEFORE they faced Marciano is endorsing how f***ing bad the division was at that time.

I don't care a sh it about Walcott's physique, any more than I cared about Ken Norton's or Frank Bruno's. Wtf has that got to do with his ability at the age of 39?

Your reference to Vlad being 39 proves nothing other than the fact that so far the younger guys can't beat him, but make no mistake if he lasts another year and a young guy comes along and beats him, people will RIGHTLY say. " But Vlad was 40 ffs "

Its called 15 round conditioning, something that very few have these days. Obviously Moore, Walcott, and Charles were better than the younger, bigger men of the day because they beat them and YES THE BEAT THE YOUNG, BIG BLACK fighters to get there. so keep talking about age because its all you can say to suit your agenda
