Marciano was a lower top 10 ATG. I do believe he would give Ali, Holmes, Tunney all they could handle. Prime Louis may have been a more difficult but to crack but I could certainly see Rocky doing well.

It would not have been Franco cavvichi. Reports indicate Weill was most Interested in Either valdes baker or patterson for 50-0

I don't care how old or young you are...nothing is stopping that human buzz saw in round 6. One of the greatest displays of stamina I have ever seen on film...Moore was broken that round,,and it had nothing to do with age

Moore seemed to have plenty of energy when he swept the last 3 rounds against number 1 ranked 6'3 215lb Cuban Nino Valdes in 90 degree heat 4 months earlier

The ringside reporters and Moore himself expressly stated his legs gave out in round 6 because of his age. But of course you who were not there, or even born know best. Cavicchi's people made an offer of $500,000 but that was dependent on the fight being in Italy.
No way in the world would Al Weill have risked a DSQ abroad. The AP had the Moore v Valdes fight level going into the last round and Valde fought the last 2 rounds with one eye closed.

And your point? Moore dominated the 15th round, and clearly won the fight

The AP reported: "Moore closed fast to win the decision."

Because Moore couldn't miss Valdes with his right hand. Should we take credit away from Moore for closing Valdes eye with his punches?

IBC secretary Truman Gibson said, "Moore's showing tonight was so impressive that the heavyweight champion must defend against him, possibly at New York in September."

Promoter Jack Kearns announced that Moore and Valdes would fight for the "World Heavyweight Championship of Nevada." Referring to World Heavyweight Champion Rocky Marciano, Kearns said, "That other guy refused to fight either Moore or Valdes, so they're declaring the title vacant and the winner will claim it."

Looks like Moore was regarded as a very dangerous fight for Marciano, one Marciano's camp didn't want.

But his legs didn't give out on him in Round 15 vs the # 1 rated 6'3 215lb Nino Valdes(on an 11 fight winning streak)????

So apparently a 38 year old Archie Moore can "Close Fast" in a 90 degree 15 round war against a 6'3 215lb 29 year old # 1 rated contender, but is unable to do the same against a 32 year old 5'10 188lb fighter because of his "age".

I think it was Valdes that Weill didn't want and so did his manager.Personally I think Marciano would have beaten him by stoppage.

It's possible Moore didn't have it in him to replicate his earlier feat at his advanced age just 5 months later.Ever thought of that?

    ps Valdes scaled 209.5lbs

NB Moore had to boil down to 175lbs to defend his lhvy title against Olson in between those fights , you don't think that might have depleted his stamina at 38years old?

Marciano was very good, but not compared to Ali. That's where a lot of people get it wrong. Holmes would of outboxed him aswell. Marciano had a lot of trouble with an aging Walcott and a small but very talented light heavyweight in Ezzard Charles which makes me think Ali would of stopped Marciano.

Ahhhh so Moore suddenly aged dramtically in those 5 months? That's your argument?

Well the quote is saying Marciano didn't want Moore or Valdes. So where is your Proof Weill was afraid of Valdes but not moore?

Its Moore's argument that he had no legs and after 6rds the ringside reporters agreed with him, but of course you can't because that would mean taking some kudos away from your idol which is what all your Rocky posts and those you make concerning his opponents are all about!

Moore also said Marciano was given an 8 count by the referee and saved from a knockout in round 2. You going to believe him when he says that too?

Moore is well known around boxing circles as being one of the all time bulllshiiters. He lies a lot.

    Once again McVey,

What is your argument for why a 38 year old Archie Moore can "Close Fast" in a 90 degree 15 round war against a 6'3 215lb 29 year old # 1 rated contender, but is unable to do the same against a 32 year old 5'10 188lb fighter?

You explain to me during those 5 months what happened that made Moores "legs" Suddenly age so badly?

You explain to me why in the Marciano fight why he looked so much worse physically than he did in his previous filmed fights in 1954-1955.
