Pray tell me SIR, which is YOUR perfect country you so admire ?
So damn easy for you to criticize two of the greatest countries
on this planet, and remember HG what a man who conceivably
knew a tad more than you do Winston Churchill who wrote sagely,
" Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all
    others"...
So, please tell me in your estimation, what Country "doesn't have "blood" {as you describe it] on it's hand ???

I hate to talk politics on this boxing site, but you utter rubbish.
America abolished slavery during the Civil War, during which hundreds of thousands of Union young boys lost their lives to
rid the Southern States of Slavery...Why bring this up on a boxing forum ?. Slavery has been gone for about 150 years...
What do you hope to accomplish now on this boxing forum ?.
I love this country, and lost many friends during WW2, and with all it's faults this country by and large helped save Democracy..
    Back to Boxing...:patsch

I've never been to the US but I love the quote from Joe Louis when he was asked by German reporters about the segregation and inequality that I mentioned,he replied, "theres nothing wrong with this country that Hitler would fix".

    A very astute answer!:good

I read something similar, Foxy. At a public appearance some big white guy feigned admiration for Joe then cheap shotted him, launching into a racist tirade.

Also, I read somewhere that when Schmelling was hammering Louis in their first fight, a lot of the "home" fans were cheering Schmelling on, again using racist language.

As others have said, racism was rife in Joe's time.

If Marciano was black, could he have still been white in the ears of the blind?

exactly...either stay in America and help correct it in a positive way or apply for flight stamps and pick the country of your choice...the grass is always greener on the other side until you get close enough to see the insects

Would that have been the one where the great Jesse Owens leapt in and wanted to seriously hurt the guy? If so fuking fair play to him, a medium sized guy with a huge heart. May he R.I.P.

Bummy, I have been around a long time, and what I see from some young snotnoses who live in America and YES England TOO, makes me very demoralized. Truly they were indoctrinated by the radical Professors and teachers who following my generation. the so called "greatest generation", radicalized them to such an extent, that I truly fear for this generation. If these ungrateful haters of this country dislike it so damn much, why wouldn't they emigrate to their "perfect" vallhala country of their choice ? You know why they DON'T ?. Because with all America's and Britain's so called faults these whiners and appeasers are the worst hypocrites imaginable...they ***** and moan knowing they are "protected" by free speech, whilst spilling their venom...
If they were honest, shouldn't these "noble' souls strive to improve their country's laws, the democratic way, by the ballot box ?
God Bless America and Abraham Lincoln, and God Bless the hero of my youth Winston Churchill, who it was said, " mobilized the English language and sent it into battle "...Cheers Bummy.:good

Not sure where I read it, but I have got a copy of "In black and white:The untold story of Joe Louis and Jesse Owens" somewhere and it might have been in that? I haven't heard about Owens, but I heard Jackie Robinson was a bit of a game lad who knocked a commanding officer's teeth out for a racist epithet while in the army.

I've been meaning to dig that book out again; I seem to remember it was a good read.

F, Do you know the definition of a liberal ? A conservative who hasn't been mugged yet...Racism is on BOTH SIDES, you may want to know...Why on this boxing forum do you have to bring up politics ? Makes ya feel noble ? To think my generation of WW2 lost over 350,000 American young soldiers who gave their lives for a country that is so damn vilified by true racists who see but ONE SIDE...SHAME...
    I didn't start this political B.S. I'm just counterpunching.

The pertinent ones were, because the punches were accompanied by racial abuse. It might seem unfathomable to you if you are under 40, but in America at that time EVEN the Heavyweight champion of the world was first and foremost considered to be a " N word."

Look at Clay / Ali on his return from the Olympics with his gold medal, refused service in a restaurant. Rubin Carter constantly harassed by racist police because he was deemed too uppity.

Firstly I have no time for politics in general, and party politics especially. To me anyone who wants to become directly involved in politics should be automatically disqualified from doing so on the grounds they are most likely a war mongering lunatic.

Secondly wtf has a guy walking up to Joe Louis feigning admiration, then punching him in the mouth and screaming racial abuse at him got to do with your frankly patronising " racism is a two way thing " statement?

Thirdly, you are not the only one to have lost friends and / or family in WW2, and 350,000 Americans though very sad is a drop in the ocean to the amount of British and European service men who died in that horrific conflict.

Put your hand on your conservative heart and tell me you would have even bothered if the Japanese hadn't bombed pearl harbour. Because you showed zero interest up until then.
