    Irony isnt big in the US ,so I " guess" you are in earnest. I present facts like Marciano never rendered any of his challengers unconscious but Rocky's cheer leader Bummy Davis sidesteps it. I ask why it took him 9 rds to ko two lightheavies, despite beating on them incessantly , 11 rds to stop a helpless Lastarza and I'm accused of being a hater.:huh

    I don't know why the opinion of the editor of the foremost American boxing publication of the era is not relevant and is a "cherry pick"

    The medical definition of unconscious has nothing to do with boxing. If a man stays down for ten seconds, he has been knocked out.

    "helpless LaStarza"

    Who made him helpless?

    "9 rounds to stop two lightheavies"

    Who weighed 188 and 205 for the fights with Marciano, and Don C hadn't fought at lightheavyweight for years and was the British Empire heavyweight champion.

    No more than it is a cherry pick to dispute Matthews' status as a heavyweight.

    Anyway, Sands is irrelevant to Matthews, as most of his fights were on the other side of the world from Matthews. The two were not likely to fight except in a world championship fight or eliminator.

    Plus by the time Matthews emerged as a top light-heavyweight, Sands was down at middleweight and rated there.

    Why don't you actually watch the fights before commenting on them and making a complete prat of yourself ?

    ****ell and Lastarza were on their feet when they were stopped, Walcott was in the act of rising and its debatable whether he beat the count or not.

    ****ell's best weight was 175lbs, he was hog fat at 205lbs.
    Moore was the reigning lhvychamp and would still be defending that title 3 years later.

    I would honestly have thought that Marciano’s power would be one of a few things about him that would not be questioned.

    The debate should not be about whether he could knock Lennox Lewis out, so much as whether he could hit him.

    Sands fought twice in the US neither were title fights ,or eliminators.
    You made a play about Mathews being undefeated at 175lbs
    He beat three names at that weight .Murphy ,who could be outboxed by anyone with a jab. Nardico refresh my memory whom did he beat at 175lbs? Oh and a 37 years old Lloyd Marshall having his last fight..


    What about the other light heavies that Mathews missed?

    Satterfield
    Pompey
    Moore
    Turpin
    Bucceroni
    Morrow
    Missing all those rated guys out, seriously devalues the statement, "he was undefeated at light heavy, "imo.
