Joe Louis knocked out 250lb + fighters and he didn't hit as hard as Marciano according to Walcott, Rocky hit plenty harder enough to finish most fighters. Every fight is different, we could give hundreds of examples of big hitters being unable to knock out opponents out who have been knocked out by lesser punchers, its a stange old world.
The individual circumstances have to be addressed. Moore and Cokell are being brought up in regards to their past follies and previous weights, but the actual matches and actions are not being discussed. Moore survived as long as he did by going to the ropes and rolling his upper body continously without firing much in return, slipping Rocky's punches or negating their effects. The punches that were initially putting him down weren't very clean, they were short arm clubbing punches adjusted to hit a fast moving target. ****ell was simply prepared to die in the ring that night for his country, that sort of thing happens from time to time. Rocky still dropped him several times and got the job done even if it wasn't pretty. Rocky also just didn't seem to have the same torque he usually did, likely a result of the injury lay off. He had a similar poor punching performance against Savold. Being a small heavyweight, so much of Rocky's power was generated through leverage and technique. If he was off or lethargic, the odd underwhelming performance is going to happen. He still seemed to have enough pure power to break these guys down. But if he wasn't a dynamite puncher, nobody was. As pointed out, he has several note worthy one punch KOs and many more good knockouts and displays of effective punching power.
Yes they are,by me, and I posted the fights! Several noteworthy one punch kos? Layne took a systematic body beating before being broken down . Walcott ran out of gas and retreated to the ropes. He was on his feet in the rematch and probably decided he didn't want it any more. Marciano had no technique at all ! He often missed punches by feet, and on several occasions fell over when he missed! He trained like a monk so that he was in condition to throw big shots for 15 rounds he was a GRINDER!
Stupidly inane post Marciano twice got taken the distance by Ted Lowry who scaled 177 &180lbs for those fights. He was also taken the distance by the mighty Willis Applegate, see below. 185¾Willis Applegate196 This content is protected - This content is protected - This content is protected Rhode Island Auditorium, Providence, Rhode Island, USAWUD1010 referee: Dolly Searle This was a bruising, crowd-pleasing battle. Marciano won handily enough but failed to even knock down his opponent, who had fought only twice in the previous two years. Applegate's best round was the third, which the referee also took from Marciano because of a low punch. Red landed plenty of good punches, typically in the early parts of rounds, but Marciano almost always came back later to take the play away. Marciano's best round was the sixth. The attendance was 4167 and the gross gate was $7,6l6. Excuses. Excuses .Excuse, I smell BULL****!
This is what I have been saying for quite some time. McVey does not watch much boxing. He just regurgitates stuff from books, and sometimes omits the full transcript of the passages if it does not coincide with his interests.
His is essentially know for ONE one punch ko that over Walcott. No one is pretending there's just you coming out with a pathetic litany of excuses for Marciano's poor performances against ****ell and Savold.
I have seen McVey say Vitali Klitschko is an over rated puncher, yet he has 41 Ko's in 45 wins. This is even better than Rhaman. So much for using numbers to make his case.
Not really, 4 have been brought up and discussed in this thread and contrasted with other puncher's signtuare ONE punch KOs. You are certainly pretending by suggesting there is only the one Walcott knockout.
That last comment I made was a comparision between Maricano and Rahman's overall bodies of work. Not a suggestion that Marciano was never took the distance by a similar sized opponent. My comment that Rahman was often bigger than his opponents stands. Rahman had 20 lbs on his second most noteworthy stoppage victim.
-Layne was fighting gamely and stopped cold by one counter right cross over his jab -Walcott was fighting gamely but bought a feint and was stopped cold by one right cross. -Walcott did not make the count of 10. A one punch knockout is what it say it is. They are rare, yet Maricano has scored them over two contenders and a reigning Champion. -He certainly had power punching technique, he knew how to put his weight behind a punch and generate power with leverage.
What did I say about the boxing aspects in this post that weren't facts. You're the one that brought up Walcott beating the count when the slow-motion film clearly shows he didn't. Moore was the light-heavyweight champion, but he was also capable of moving up and fighting as a heavyweight. He isn't unique. Boxers fighting in higher weight class has never been unusual and many have won the title at the higher weight.
