If Margarito beats Mosley, does he take over the vacancy as "THE" welterweight champ?

WRONG

You don't get credit for accomplishments of a fighter AFTER you beat him.
By that logic Quintana beat PW, Cotto beat Quintana, Margo beat Cotto therefore Margo is the champ.

Margo is #1
PW #2
Cotto #3

Why is Margo #1? He beat the previous #1!!!!

But no champ until #1 and #2 fight.

 

He's fighting for a title at 154,I doubt that is a stay busy fight.And there are other fighters than Margarito at WW.I once read that he will clean up 47,54 and 60,fighting one guy doesn't do that.

Mosley hasn't done anything special since losing to Forrest. His best win since then was over Collazo and that was after Hatton did it.


And his most recent fight at 147 was a loss to Cotto who Margo just beat.

Bad choice by Margo IMO. I know he wants money but PW was there for the taking.

 

no the difference is PW went out and avenged his loss, he beat the only person to beat him... PW has beat everyone put in front of him..

However Margarito hasn't avenged one of his 5 losses yet..

as Margarito is #1, Williams is #2, Cotto is #3 and Mosley is #4...(these are ranking according to Ring, not mine)
According to the Ring rules in order for a new lineal champion to be crowned the #1 fighter has to fight the #2 guy or the #3 guys is the pundits feel #2 and #3 are of equivalent difficulty.
The question then becomes, at what point is Williams no longer considered in the running as the #2 man in the WW division? So, what are the rules regarding a fighter vacating a weight division according to Ring(since Calzaghe was still long time SMW Champion until he fought RJJ and Hatton remained LWW Champion despite his loss to Mayweather at WW)?

It appears Williams is not yet out of the ratings at WW and therefore going to block Margarito's chances of being named Ring WW Champion even if Margarito beats Mosley. I wouldn't give it to Margo even if he beat Mosley and then Cotto as long as Williams remains, somehow, in the division.

 

you can't proclaim yourself top of the division when there is a guy in the division that beat you by UD... and then you turned town a rematch with him which would also be a career high payday..

It was close, Hatton won. Just cause a fight is close doesn't mean the loser should of won.
